The Medical Secretary is responsible for planning and monitoring the daily organization of the clinic/office and providing secretarial support to the Physician in their clinical practice, academic and research responsibilities. This includes, but is not limited to, answering of telephones and contacting patients; general reception duties; scheduling of patient appointments; liaising with other medical and health professionals to facilitate patient referrals; preparation of correspondence; letter transcription; transcribing clinical notes.

**Regular Part-Time**

**Rate of Pay**:$27.23 - $29.49 per hour

**Hours of Work**:up to 22.5 hours per week, no guarantee of hours

**Qualifications**:

- Successful completion of a two year diploma in medical office administration, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by the Hospital
- 2 years of relevant experience required
- Advanced computer software skills ? conversant with LHSC software, office tools, patient registration, scheduling program, etc.
- Proficient Database management and advanced dictatyping skills
- Proficient knowledge of medical terminology and OHIP billing procedures
- Experience with office equipment operation
- General bookkeeping and accounting skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and maintain accuracy
- Excellent communication skills
- Advanced ability to maintain confidentiality and be empathetic and sensitive to patient needs, as per hospital policies
- Research skills and knowledge of academic institutions
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
- Ability to identify and bring forward to the physician, issues/items/ concerns
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC?s Vision, Purpose, and Values
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
