**Working for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering**

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering aims to maintain its position among the top schools in North America. Our graduate program attracts outstanding students from the best schools worldwide and presently has an enrollment of over 500 students. The undergraduate programs in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mining Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering enroll close to 1000 students.

**Position**

The individual will work under the supervision of Professor Zaher Hashisho. The required tasks for this position include ordering and maintaining inventory of lab supplies and ensuring labs are compliant with UofA Health, Safety and Environment standards, assist with preparing proposals and writing materials, and assist with Experiments and lab work. Additional tasks include assisting with surveys and experiments.

**Duties**

1. Maintain a safe work environment:

- Coordinate with new students for completing safety training needed to work in the lab
- Maintain safe work environment per applicable safety protocols
- Adhere to established safety and hygiene protocols to maintain a pristine and organized lab environment.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure a conducive and safe working environment for all researchers.

2. Stock Lab Supplies:

- Manage and maintain an accurate inventory of laboratory supplies.
- Monitor supply levels and anticipate needs to prevent disruptions in research activities.
- Collaborate with procurement and research teams to ensure timely and cost-effective replenishment of supplies.
- Contact service provides for instruments maintenance and repair

3. Assist with preparing proposals and other writing materials:

- Complete literature reviews or collecting references
- Draft proposals, reports
- Proofread documents
- prepare charts, figures, PowerPoint presentations
- Assist team members with the analysis of data, providing support to ongoing research initiatives.

4. Assist with Experiments and lab work:

- Collaborate with researchers in setting up equipment and preparing materials for experiments.
- Actively assist team members in the execution of experiments, following established protocols.
- Actively assist team members in recording and organizing experimental data.
- Assist students in analysis of samples using their knowledge of analytical chemistry and environmental science
- Assist students in setting up Eddy covariance systems

**Qualifications**
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (engineering or science).
- Strong knowledge of chemistry and environmental science
- Knowledge of university operation, procedures, and safety protocols
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Hands-on knowledge of eddy covariance systems
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality research standards.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
