**Working for the Department/Faculty**

**Position
As an integral member of the Alberta Prostate Cancer Initiative (APCaRI) Registry, the Research Assistant works in a dynamic, collaborative, quality-focused environment. Assistant staff interacts with technical, medical and management staff at the Northern or Southern Alberta Urology Clinics, in addition to Biorepository personnel and partnering hospitals.

Specifically, the Research Assistant performs activities related to annual participant follow up, the accessioning of incoming patient Prostate Cancer-related information into the relevant database, performing additional clerical functions, and other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.

**Duties
- Schedule patients follow up based on list of patients provided by the study team.
- Assists study team with creating packages to be delivered to participants, mails it to participants and keeps track of responses.
- Retrieves records when needed and enters data into database by inputting alphabetic and numeric information on keyboard or optical scanner according to screen format.
- Maintains data entry requirements by following standard operating procedures.
- Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
- Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality at all times and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Signs APCaRI confidentiality agreements.
- Attends and participates in meetings as necessary. Attends to the APCaRI Symposium.
- Participates in setting and maintaining deadlines and timelines.
- Support to maintain Website and social media as necessary.

**Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or higher - Bachelor in Science or related field preferred
- Six (6) months recent related experience
- Advanced computer skills using Microsoft Office required
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Good interpersonal and service skills
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Ability to produce work in accordance with Hospital standards
- Ability to use good judgment in assessing difficult situations
- Ability to perform routine work independently
- Problem solving skills with good decision making
- General knowledge of processes, procedures and standards

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Knowledge of Oncologic Medical Terminology is an asset
- Related experience with oncology studies
