We operate several licensed restaurant/pub establishments across campus, including Dewey's (located in the North Power Plant on the UofA's main North Campus) and Balmoral Lounge (located in the Saville Community Sports Centre on South Campus).

We're looking for an energetic and motivated Assistant Operations Manager to assist our Operations Manager and the rest of the UASU's leadership team in the overall financial and operational success of the businesses. Operations management; staff supervision; client experience - you'll have the chance to be part of it all

**THE JOB**:

- Assist in coordinating the smooth and effective operation of the establishments including both front-of-house and back-of-house activities.
- Supervise, schedule, train, develop, and motivate staff within the department, and exercise vigilance, control and awareness in the area of staff costs. Assist in the hiring of staff and discipline of staff as required.
- Foster a culture of inclusivity, cooperation, communication, productivity, adaptability, personal development and a positive team attitude among all staff.
- Monitor and continually improve operational performance through superior customer service, overall value, product quality, staffing, presentation, pricing, facilities, equipment and overall experience.
- Handle queries from customers and staff, and ensure the resolution of customer service and operational issues as they arise.
- Assist in monitoring revenue and expense levels, and accordingly assist in adjusting staff levels, margins, offerings and other monetary factors.
- Perform administrative duties including but not limited to cash reconciliations, daily float preparation, inventory management, payables and receivables, point-of-sale programming and the ordering of products and supplies.
- Assist in the effective execution of health and safety programs, marketing and promotional strategies, change management activities, staff training and development programs, and other operational activities as required.
- Execute cross-functional management responsibilities and activities for other business units as assigned.
- Perform the duties of all staff positions within the department on a regular, fill-in basis during periods of peak demand and during staff shortages.
- Maintain the operations in accordance with all relevant legislation, regulations and policies including those of the Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis Commission, Alberta Health Services, the City of Edmonton, the UASU and the University of Alberta. Ensure staff awareness and adherence of all policies and procedures.
- Facilitate and promote special events within the operations.
- Assist with research and planning activities.
- Maintain the overall appearance, condition and safety of the establishments.
- Attend such meetings as may be required to support the smooth operation of the area or the UASU as a whole.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

**YOUR QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Minimum one year of management/supervisory experience, or an acceptable combination of education and experience
- Minimum one year of experience in a restaurant, bar or other hospitality venue
- Superior interpersonal, communication, writing and analytical skills
- Ability to lead teams in a positive, collaborative and effective manner
- Ability to work responsibly with little or no supervision
- Knowledge of budgeting and staffing procedures
- High level of creativity and motivation, and an embracer of innovation and change
