- Job Summary**Mandate**:
The Indigenous Community Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the Faculty of Human and Social Development (HSD) in building and sustaining relationships with local Indigenous Communities to foster intercultural understanding, collaboration, and respect for Indigenous knowledge. HSD commits to actions that recognize and support the rights of Indigenous students, their dignity and respect diversity of their cultures, traditions, histories, and aspirations. HSD continues to seek opportunities to fulfill a commitment to the UVIC Indigenous Plan and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.

**Objectives**:
Reporting to the Director, Indigenous Initiatives, the Indigenous Community Engagement Coordinator provides Indigenous student cultural support and Indigenous community outreach coordination for the Faculty of Human and Social Development. This role collaborates with local communities and key campus partners, such as First Peoples House (FPH) colleagues and other Indigenous services on campus. The Indigenous Community Engagement Coordinator act as a culturally grounded ambassador at UVic and to serve as trusted liaison to local Indigenous communities. This role works closely with HSD Dean’s Office team, staff and faculty across all HSD Schools and Programs.
- Job RequirementsThis position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to an undergraduate degree plus 2 3 of experience working within a comparable environment. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

- Experience collaborating and engaging in community relationships building outreach with local Indigenous peoples and communities/organizations in a culturally sensitive way.
- Knowledge of local Indigenous histories, culture, community, ceremonies, and protocols.

- Experience with event planning and coordination.
- Experience dealing with personal, confidential, and sensitive information.
- Experience effectively navigating and using a variety of office equipment, software and programs including Microsoft Office, Databases, Spreadsheets, SharePoint.), and systems (e.g., FAST, FMIS) including the ability to learn new systems and procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and tailor communication style for different audiences and situations.
- Ability to process documentation with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Highly service oriented with a willingness to assist in maintaining a student-focused environment.
