**JOB TITLE: Indigenous Marine Coordinator**
**Reports to: Marine Manager**
**Salary Scale: $25-30**
**Department: Local Services**

**SUMMARY**:
The Indigenous Marine Coordinator (IMC) will be responsible for coordinating engagement with Transport Canada (TC) as it relates to marine shipping, facilitate knowledge sharing, and ensure the Songhees Nation community’s involvement in the development and implementation of marine transportation strategies and policies. The IMC will work with coastal Nations and communities to help address concerns regarding the potential impacts of increased marine traffic and facilitate information sharing between governments and coastal communities. The IMC’s primary focus will to be to engage on the Ocean Protection Plan (OPP) initiatives (CEMS, AVTM, etc.). This position goes to March 31, 2028, possibility of extension funding dependent.

**KEY DUTIES**:

- Planning Songhees Nation’s engagement and participation in CEMS.
- Review and provide input on TC marine initiatives engagement materials and technical documents.
- With the support of the marine manager, engage with the community and leadership to receive feedback and compile input on TC marine initiatives.
- Identify marine shipping issues of concern and assessment priorities for the Nation.
- Develop partnerships with key stakeholders in the marine transportation industry.
- Ensure Songhees Nation’s interests, rights and title are respected by TC marine initiatives.

**REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES**:
*Any of the certificates stated below are considered assets
- Knowledge of marine transportation systems, policies, and regulations, including familiarity with OPP, CEMS, and AVTM.
- Familiarity with TC’s role and responsibilities in marine shipping and transportation.
- Understanding of the environmental and socio-economic impacts of marine traffic on coastal communities and ecosystems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey information clearly and effectively.
- Experience in contributing to the development and implementation of policies and strategies.
- Ability to read long documentation and pull information from it.
- Understanding of the dynamics of multi stakeholder engagement processes.
- Understanding of relevant regulatory frameworks governing marine transportation and Indigenous rights and interests.
- Understanding of Indigenous governance structures, protocols, and cultural practices.

**REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:

- Degree in biology, environmental studies, geography, political ecology, political science, or related field.
- Valid BC Driver’s license.

**WORK CONDITIONS**:

- Sitting, standing, walking
- Desk work and looking at screens for long periods of time.
