**Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 10 Pemberton Avenue in North Vancouver.**

**What you’ll do**
- Develops and recommends strategies on the implementation of safety management systems, education and training programs, accident prevention initiatives, industrial hygiene (prevention of exposure), engineering controls, first aid provisions, emergency response, fire safety, accident investigations and injury reporting protocols.
- Manages the safety management system in line with applicable Federal and Provincial standards. Educates managers and supervisors on their individual legal obligations while assists them in integrating safety related duties into daily activities and influence change through their own actions.
- Ensures safety training programs align to support the Safety Management System.
- Manages all aspects of the external and Internal Audit programs to meet the requirements of COR and aligned to meet ISO 9001 requirements.
- Manages the safety team in terms of personal performance, expectations, goals, motivation, and team building. Establishes actions plans with the Safety Coordinators and conducts quarterly reviews on progress and completion of action items.
- Assists on all regulatory appeals i.e., WCB Order, ESDC and TC compliance directives, Administrative Penalties and Prosecutions, WCB Assessments, Federal Directives or Prosecutions and handles all incident investigations where there is a risk of prosecution.
- Advises senior management on legislation and internal policy and procedures. Monitors and reports on levels of compliance.
- Collaborates with Union leaders on safety policy development and implementation. Actively participates in Safety committees in search for consensus so that safety policies are accepted by the Union leaders and Salaried employees.
- Leads risk management and hazard assessment initiative including task analysis training in risk control, corrective actions, and monitoring effectiveness of new and existing control measures. Mentors the safety team in these processes.
- Works in the field as required to support all aspects of the safety program Behavior Based Safety programs, Hazard reporting, Near miss reporting, Inspections, and audits.
- Builds relationships and facilitates knowledge transfer with various external bodies (local emergency response, fire departments, local council, Transport Canada, Transportation Safety Board, HRDC and WorkSafe). Keeps up to date on regulatory changes and participates in review bodies.
- Supports senior management on various safety issues that impact the wider industry group.
- Participate in Internal and external reviews.
- Facilitates accident investigation, and coaches team members in achieving excellence in root cause analysis through proper investigative practices.
- Evaluates data, develops trends and communicates the common reasons why accidents are occurring in worksite.
- Ensures the that corrective actions associated to the safety team are implemented and closed in a timely manner as well as supporting operations leaders’ teams in how best to manage corrective actions.

**What you’ll bring**
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional 5-7 years of experience in safety compliance, plus at least 3 years of experience in health and safety management role in the shipbuilding or marine transportation industries, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Formal Investigative training, TapRoot, DNV Scat or similar.
- Internal/External Auditor experience is an asset.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety Regulations in BC and Canada (WorkSafe BC Regulations, Canada Labour Code Part II, Employment and Social Development Canada, Transport Canada Marine Occupational Safety and Health Regulations, Workers Compensation Act).
- Understanding of Class Society roles in the Marine Industry.
- Ability to successfully implement safety management programs and policies in a unionized Environment.
- Knowledge of HSEQ management software programs.
- Understanding of accident causation and prevention.
- Competent at carrying out internal and managing external audits.
- Ability to collaborate with line managers and staff to achieve health and safety standards.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to support management with their safety responsibilities.
- Leadership skills and sound judgement.
- Ability to develop innovative solutions that will impact behavior and draw focus on personal safety as being the top operating priority.
