Health and Safety Manager

Working hours 7am to 4pm - sites are mainly in the west end of the city - office is in north york.
- **INTRODUCTION**_
This standard procedure establishes and describes the essential function, authority, duties, responsibilities, job requirements, and performance criteria of the Health and Safety Manager for the company.
- **FUNCTIONAL ROLE**_
- The basic function of the Health and Safety Manager is to ensure all safety requirements are being met within the office and on sites (ie. safety meetings with crews/service men/sites, JHSC meetings, tool box talks, site visits, injury/accident reporting in and out of office, etc.)
- **REPORTING RELATIONSHIP**_
- Reports to: Operations Manager
- **AUTHORITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITY**_
- The Health and Safety Manager is authorized to hold all Employees and sub-contractors accountable to our Safety policies and those implemented by all customers.
- **RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES**_
- Document all safety issues and/or violations for sub-contractors and employees
- Follow our roofing disciplinary policies when administering the Safety Program.
- Arrange safety meetings with All service technicians and/or sub-contractors
- Ensure office safety is up to date and assess any safety issues in office and on site
- Set up safety rep every week with job sites and crews to visit and do inspection
- Set up Joint Health and Safety Meetings and also a subcontractor committee meeting semi-annually.
- Make sure all proper training for our Employees is up to date on e-compliance. Set up training for all staff when required (Working at heights, WHIMIS, Propane etc)
- Make sure all proper training for subcontractors is up to date in e-compliance
- Collect all foreman inspections monthly through e-compliance and ensure they are completed properly
- Collect all crew leader safe work evaluation through e-compliance and ensure completed correctly
- Update MSDS binder for warehouse and shop
- Work with the Joint Health and Safety Committee, to implement and coordinate company policies
- Assist in the development and implementation of company health and safety policies, procedures and programs to enhance safety culture.
- Conduct safety evaluations of our project sites using documentation and standardized processes
- As required, assist with the preparation and implementation of the site safety plan, and other safety related plans (Fall Protection Plans, Emergency Response, and Hazard Assessments). Work with project management to ensure site implementation of the our Safety Program
- Ensure that sub-contractors adhere to required safety standards in keeping with our policy and legislation.
- Assess and manage Workers Comp cases through modified work programs and report LTI and medical aids.
- Assess risks and trends in the workplace and implement corrective measures to reduce risks
- Review or assist in establishing safety inspection schedules for tools, equipment & PPE to ensure safe operating conditions and compliance with current regulations
- Notify site supervision of all safety hazards observed or upcoming and give input on corrective actions
- Maintain records of incidents and accidents and provide statistics for managers.
Identify, investigate, report and provide guidance relative to root causes for incidents, employee safety programs, regulatory compliance relative to health and safety.
- Conduct Annual Safety Policy orientations and updates with all sub-contractors and employees
- Collect all Toolbox Talks through ecomplaince and ensure filled out properly and signed off by all crew members.
- Ensure all Safety documentation is being collected on a regular basis for each Sub-contractor and in-house Employee
- Conduct in house employee monthly Safety talk meetings for the ware house
- Conduct in house employee safety talk meeting for field work
- Collect all of the roofing foreman’s safety inspection reports and ensure they have been processed accordingly. Then filed away in the appropriate sub-contractor file.
- Work with the MOL and our third-party Safety consultants if any issue/accident occurs on site
- Follow up with crews for all production related meetings to ensure attendance.
- To act as a back-up to the order desk while on holidays
- Analyze weekly company GPS reports and submit summary findings to the Operations Manager
- Analyze and review the monthly pays reason code report and report summary findings to he operations manager
- Assist the Operation manager with Special projects and other tasks as required.
- Represent us in administering the health and safety excellence program with the WSIB
- **OTHER PERFORMANCE CRITERIA**_
