**POSITION TITLE**: Occupational Health and Safety Specialist

**LOCATION**: Hybrid (Vancouver office)

Community Social Services Health and Safety Association of BC (CSSHSA), as outlined in the organization’s vision, mission, and values, is committed to promoting well-being and safer spaces for all. In collaboration with community social services (CSS) sector unions, employers, and our partners, CSSHSA is focusing on the development of education, tools and resources and promotion of best practices for a vibrant health and safety culture. Our aim is to develop and expand system wide programs to improve the health, safety, and well-being of BC’s CSS sector. **Role Summary**

The Occupational Health and Safety Specialist (the Specialist) works with the CSSHSA Advisory Panel to develop effective occupational health and safety (OHS) programs, training and resources that lead to reduction of workplace injuries, claims and achieve compliance with the _Workers Compensation Act (the Act)_, Occupational Health and Safety Regulation (OHSR) and other relevant legislation.

The Specialist is a skilled facilitator and delivers OHS training sessions, conducts outreach with partner CSS organizations to support them with implementation of health and safety programs and culture. The Specialist is an expert in health and safety management systems, understands the Certificate of Recognition (COR) program and can effectively liaise with all levels, from workers to directors.

**Responsibilities**
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with regional employers, employees, unions, businesses and other partners - key contact for inquiries and services related to health and safety management systems and training
- Build community and connection by hosting peer support groups and monitoring online forums, including the facilitation of discussion and additional educational opportunities
- Provide health and safety consulting and coaching services to support the development of programs or strategies for CSSHSA members
- Lead the development of CSSHSA’s Health and Safety resources and tools in collaboration with the Advisory Panel and other partners, to create a constant flow of health and safety information that is relevant to the CSS sector
- Lead the development of the Health and Safety Training Initiative, including an engagement process with CSSHSA members and development of safety training in collaboration with learning specialist and Advisory Panel members
- Contribute your own experience and knowledge to inform curriculum updates, content updates, and provide informed input on the health and safety services and resources provided to the sector
- Demonstrate empathy, professionalism, and discretion in all interactions with colleagues and the public; respecting the highest level of confidentiality and privacy
- Collaborate with industry experts to remain at the forefront of health and safety advancements
- Maintain accurate records and evaluation data as required

**Qualifications**
- A level of education, training and experience equal to a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (e.g. OH&S) plus three to five (3-5) years of related progressive health and safety experience, ideally in CSS sector or a diploma plus five to seven (5-7) years of related progressive health and safety experience in the sector
- Advanced knowledge of legislation, regulations, and standards related to safety and disability management
- Demonstrated experience designing health and safety training, programs and resources
- Demonstrated experience designing Health and Safety Management systems, understanding of COR, and Learning Management Systems
- Empathetic relationship builder with demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, able to break the ice and build trust with others
- Open-minded and flexible in thoughts and tactics; patient and active listener with the ability to uphold personal and professional boundaries; commitment to continuous learning
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated ability to speak comfortably in front of groups, in-person and via videoconferencing software; previous public speaking or training facilitation experience preferred
- Excellent organizational and project management skills; ability to influence and lead change
- Self-starter with demonstrated ability to work well independently with mínimal supervision and collaborate within a team setting; ability to handle multiple projects
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and skilled in virtual meetings software platforms as a presenter/host (e.g. Teams, Zoom, Webex)
- Designation as Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) is an asset
- BC Driver’s Licence and reliable vehicle
