**Position Description**:
PCIGITI and ICCI are multi-disciplinary image-guided robotics labs at the Hospital for Sick Children where the focus is the development of mínimally invasive surgical tools and non-invasive therapy such as MR-guided focused ultrasound. We offer an exciting fast paced research environment within the clinical space of the hospital. PCIGITI is a well supported and well-resourced engineering lab within SickKids with collaboration between research engineers, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and physicians and surgeons within SickKids to develop surgical robotic solutions, medical devices and simulation tools.

**The individual will be responsible for conducting and coordinating research in surgical robotics with the following duties**:

- Development of mechanical, electrical and software for custom designed robotic systems
- 3D CAD modeling of mechanisms to modify and prototype parts
- 3D printing various fixtures and assemblies
- Hands-on machining, assembly and testing of the device
- System integration and experimental work for testing and validation purposes
- Model system dynamics and develop robotic controllers
- Create any necessary libraries for communication between Matlab/Simulink to C++ for supporting haptic controllers, data monitoring and related items
- Support phantom and in-vivo testing
- Publish results in a peer-review journals and conferences
- Supervising/mentoring undergraduate, graduate and medical students
- Tracking printer and material usage

**Qualifications**:

- PhD in mechatronics engineering, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering or electrical engineering required
- Experience in robotics and/or surgical robotic design and development
- Strong 3D modeling skills with CAD
- 3D printing experience
- Exposure and knowledge of real-time control
- Experience with electromechanical components such as AC servo motors, force sensors, encoders
- Willing to take initiative and requires mínimal direction and supervision

**For this position, the individual should have the following skills**:

- Strong hands-on mechatronics background with history of mechanical and electrical troubleshooting
- Strong programming background
- Expertise in robot dynamics and modeling
- Expertise in Matlab/Simulink
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with history of publications
- A commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion objectives

**Employment Term**: 1 year (with possible extension)
