The Postdoctoral Fellow will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigators (PIs), Drs Lianne Jeffs and Marianne Saragosa. In addition to pursuing an independent line of inquiry within the respective Scientists’ research programs, the fellow may also support ongoing projects that align with Dr. Jeffs' research program on organizational learning and system performance and Dr. Saragosa’s research program on aging-in-place and care of older adults through integrated health care systems.

Part of the learning experience will involve supporting junior staff and learners and participating in Science of Care learning initiatives. This will require the fellow to work with a diverse group of project co-investigators, research staff, trainees/students, collaborators, clinicians, leaders, and policy makers. The candidate will have opportunities to attend appropriate training, conferences, and symposia (based on additional funding) and work with an internationally recognized team of researchers.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and initiate an independent research plan over the post-doctoral fellowship (1-2 years), including identifying new lines of inquiry within the PI’s and Science of Care Institute’s work streams. Support all steps in developing and pursuing a research study, including developing a research question, methods, knowledge synthesis, protocol development, ethics applications, organizing and collecting data, and analysis. Coordinate with the research staff to support these activities. Support and lead publications, report writing, and other knowledge translation activities (e.g., workshops, symposia, newsletters, website content) related to the candidate's research question. The candidate may also support publications and sub-studies on other ongoing projects led by the PIs. The candidate must also apply for relevant projects (e.g. operating grants; planning, dissemination and planning grant) and salary support grants.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

PhD degree required (within the past three years) or scheduled defense date Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario or becomes eligible prior to assuming Post-doctoral position Experience working directly with patients, care partners and healthcare providers

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Demonstrated ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.  High personal motivation, self-management, and detail-orientated; ability to take responsibility in meeting deadlines. A high degree of comfort with change and the ability to adapt as the project evolves in two large, complex health systems and their health technologies. Strong relational and collaboration skills and ability to exert influence and work across sectors (hospitals, primary care, and community). Ability to work independently and without direct supervision and problem-solve technical and methodological issues that arise during the research. Knowledge and experience in computer software applications, including Microsoft Office programs. Experience with research software, including EndNote and NVivo, is an asset. High-level interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Must exhibit high professionalism, judgement, ethical conduct, discretion and diplomacy.

The successful candidate will have a strong record of academic achievement during their doctoral studies and evidence of scholarly outputs such as peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations. Applicants should have a strong interest in implementation science, models of care, and knowledge mobilization and translation. Emerging track record of securing funding for research is an asset.
