Better Business Bureau serving Mainland BC (BBB) is looking for a dynamic Media and Communications Specialist. Working directly with the marketing and communications team, you will support the department by managing various communications projects for the organization including all public relations initiatives, consumer education presentations and internal communications. This position exists to strategically position the BBB brand, increasing awareness about the BBB among consumers, businesses and the public. It requires a self-starter that takes initiative to achieve goals and accomplish all tasks with complete professionalism and that represents the company's high standards and integrity at all times.

You are sharp as a tack and a quick study. You are strategic, confident and have an eagle eye for details. You are a positive individual who loves connecting with people, are driven by getting the job done, and are supremely organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities are the same time.

You love writing and creating engaging copy is second nature for you. You have experience pitching media, preparing talking points and coordinating interviews. You are a strong communicator, and enjoy public speaking.

**Reports to**:Director, Marketing & Communications

**Responsibilities**:
PR/Media Management:

- Write informative, engaging and interesting media content (press releases, advisories, press kits, backgrounders, fact sheets, key messages, newsletters, corporate communications, etc.)
- Respond to all media inquiries, with urgency, as the primary contact and coordinator interviews with interview briefs and talking points
- Act as a BBB spokesperson.
- Work with different departments to generate new ideas and strategies, such as internal Investigations Specialist.
- Identify press opportunities and scan the media marketplace to keep up with the latest trends. Utilize knowledge of the media to recognize media angles and pitch media outlets successfully
- Adapt story pitches based on current headlines, timeliness and relevance.
- Media list management.
- Maintain, initiate and leverage strategic partnerships with external agencies and partners to support BBB storytelling and consumer education opportunities.
- Collaborate with national Marketing and Communications colleagues.
- Ongoing media monitoring. Report and monitor media coverage results.

External and Internal Communications:

- Design communication and marketing plans (strategy and executable timelines) for new products, launches, events, and promotions.
- Create and host consumer education presentations.
- Write and manage newsletters to businesses, consumers and staff.
- Support senior management in drafting and coordinating external and internal communications materials.
- Manage the production of communications, consumer education and public relations collateral.

Administration
- Represent the communications team at departmental meetings
- Inform BBB staff about ongoing external communications and activities
- Communications team meeting meeting management (agendas, minutes and action plans)
- Undertake other related duties, as required

**Ideal Experience and Skills**:

- 2 + years in public relations
- Strong understanding of the local traditional, social and digital media landscape
- 1 + years in communications role
- Exquisite written and verbal communication skills, along with demonstrated ability to craft engaging copy across a wide variety of platforms.
- Post-secondary certification in marketing, digital communications, public relations or related field is an asset
- Some travel may be required (reliable transportation to and from events)
- Some evening and weekends will be required
