Our team is growing, and we are looking for a public relations specialist. This is a hybrid, salaried, full-time 1-year contract position based in Vancouver, with the potential of becoming permanent.
- **Summary of responsibilities**:

- The Public Relations Specialist is responsible for promoting and protecting the company's reputation by developing and executing media and public relations strategies and plans for brand building/innovation, corporate promotions, internal communications, and corporate communications initiatives through the use of various media outlets in collaboration with a communications team. Other duties may be assigned as necessary. This position will report to the Director of Marketing & Communications,
- **Why you’ll want to come to work**:

- Act as the primary media contact for all media requests.
- Lead in developing, implementing, and measuring external and internal media-based communication plans.
- Develop and execute earned media initiatives; produce messaging, briefing materials, issue notes, and a wide array of other external communications collateral.
- Be accountable for daily media management and monitoring of coverage.
- Proactively source new research/content, and based on media interest, to identify potential media angles to use in PR pitches.
- Create various written collateral, including media pitches, press releases, byline articles, newsroom content, and social media content.
- Develop positive relationships, seek endorsements and support from stakeholders.
- Act as a trusted advisor to colleagues on public affairs matters and provide expertise on strategic projects

**Qualifications**
- Must have strong written/verbal/interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience in developing and executing communication plans utilizing a range of tactics.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, project management, and organizational skills.
- Sense of urgency when approaching job responsibilities, particularly working with the media.
- Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field preferred.
- 2-3 years experience working in a Media Relations role or in Public Relations
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, internet, wire services, media monitoring software, and other public relations tools. Proficient in social media platforms.
- Relationships with journalists, and all forms of media and able to facilitate client interviews and story placement considered an asset.
- Familiarity with press release procedures and guidelines.
- Proficiency in all office communication formats including MS Office products.
- Strategic mindset and strong business acumen.
