Ottawa, Canada Operation Come Home Full time

**Summary of duties and responsibilities**:
The Drop-in Support Staff provides support to youth ages 16-25 within the Operation Come Home resource centre. The Drop-in Support Staff will work with clients that attend the program to provide education and referrals on services youth can access about housing, education, employment, health, and other services offered to youth experiencing homelessness in Ottawa and at Operation Come Home.

**Purpose**:
The purpose of this position is to work with youth that are at-risk or experiencing homelessness, address their immediate needs and provide a timely access and warm transfers to resources available.

**Reporting Relationship**:
This position reports to the Manager of Housing and Support Services.

**Hours of Work**:
Approximately 20 hours per week, between the hours of 8:00 am - 8:00 pm. Each support staff’s schedule will vary. Hours may differ based on program needs.
- Role 1: Monday 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Saturday & Sundays 8:00 am - 3:00 pm
- Role 2: Tuesday 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Saturday & Sundays 8:00 am - 3:00 pm
- Role 3: Wednesday 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Saturday & Sundays 8:00 am - 3:00 pm

**Primary Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Provide services in the drop-in location
- Coordinate program meals and ensure they are served in a timely manner
- Set-up program prior to opening - including cooking meals, snacks, stations
- Complete intakes with all new clients to the program
- Identify the type of support needed for specific clients, including harm reduction, shelter, basic necessities, employment, education and other supports
- Assist and support clients to engage in services at Operation Come Home and other locations in the community
- In partnership with the client, develop plans which include follow-up services
- Broker additional long-term supports through external referrals as required
- Assist client in locating and utilizing community resources as supports to achieve their goals
- Track all services provided each shift and ensure they are documented into Operation Come Home’s database
- Provide harm reduction supplies and information to youth who identify as persons using substances
- Complete SPDAT assessments as required
- Prepare group programming and create activity plans
- Facilitate group workshops and activities
- Provide culturally sensitive services as needed
- Provide crisis intervention supports as needed
- Utilize the harm reduction and strength-based approach during service delivery
- Obtain youth consent to share their personal data with Operation Come Home
- Enter all client information in our client database, maintaining confidentiality and protecting the privacy of youth at all times
- Participate in case conferencing meetings
- Participate in regular debrief sessions to discuss events encountered during programming
- Sanitize resource centre at the end of each shift and as required
- Accept, sort and hand out donations

**Other responsibilities**:

- As part of the OCH team, promote support for Operation Come Home in the community, including with other service providers, media, etc.
- Respond to incoming calls when assigned
- Attend monthly team meetings
- Attend bi-weekly staff meetings
- Ensure your supervisor is apprised of any and all information that is considered a “need to know”
- Anything else that is requested by management

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of post secondary education in social services, or a related field (proof required)
- Two years experience working in a social service setting with a vulnerable population
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations
- Proof of a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check
- Availability to work on weekends
- Training in Applied Suicide Intervention, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Motivational Interviewing considered an asset
- Bilingualism in French and English considered an asset
- Ability to work on foot for a minimum of five hours at a time
- Ability to work onsite at 150 Gloucester Street

**Salary & benefits**:

- Hourly wage of $23.46 - paid semi-monthly
