The Destination Development & Marketing Group is focused on driving sustainable year-round visitation through programs and initiatives that positively impact Edmonton’s image and awareness in regional and international markets. More specifically on the Destination Development side, we help develop and showcase the amazing tourism experiences Edmonton has to offer visitors. We work closely with local businesses, ground operators, attractions, experience providers and festivals to help develop products and experiences that are authentic to Edmonton.

**About the Position**:
We are searching for an experienced **Manager, Destination Development** for our Destination Development team, with proven business partner and people management experience in a rapidly changing environment.

Reporting to the Director, Destination Development & Travel Trade, the Manager, Destination Development will oversee the implementation of the tactical initiatives set out in Edmonton’s first 10-Year Tourism Master Plan, lead a diverse team of passionate tourism professionals, and manage key destination development projects and relationships to support the sustainable growth of Edmonton’s visitor economy. This position is being posted to fill a vacancy resulting from an internal promotion.
- Leading/supporting the implementation of initiatives set out in Edmonton’s 10-Year Tourism Master Plan (often working with partners), including (but not limited to) the following areas of focus:

- Support the development, enhancement, and stewardship of year-round visitor experiences in various sectors (Indigenous tourism, cultural tourism, culinary tourism, festivals & events, outdoor adventure, winter experiences, shopping, etc.)
- Activate the river valley to create a more vibrant destination and gathering place
- Create a dynamic, well-designed, and accessible urban experience
- Improve access, mobility, and connectivity
- Expand tourism investment and regional collaboration
- Implementation and measuring success of the Destination Development team’s annual business plan and budget
- Working with industry partners to identify and implement additional destination development opportunities within the Edmonton region
- Participating in market discussions (visitor profile, resonating product, needs assessment, gap analysis) and planning
- Leading project plans with the development of tourism experiences, focusing on need periods and product/experience gaps
- Connecting industry partners and businesses to programs and resources that support the growth and development of their businesses and tourism in the region
- Supporting committees and working groups for various corporate initiatives (such as the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Council, Sustainability Committee)
- Facilitating and leading discovery meetings with industry stakeholders (regional municipalities, regional DMOs, tourism operators, investors, attractions etc.) specific to product/experience development
- Leading a highly motivated team of Destination Development Specialists, focused on performance coaching
- Overseeing maintenance of Destination Development inputs into the CRM system
- Working cross-functionally across the organization, taking a one team approach
- Minimum of five (5) years in business development, destination development, experience development; previous DMO/tourism industry experience an asset
- Post-secondary degree in related field; post-graduate degree an asset; Recognized industry certification an asset (eg: CDME)
- Three (3) years leading teams and overseeing complex, multifaceted projects with diverse stakeholders and interests
- Experience with market data analysis; financial forecasting, trend forecasting
