**Specialty Education Training Opportunity - Emergency Department**

Our whole team is ready to support you through orientation, buddy shifts, seminars, simulations, labs, conferences, critical care skills days, and paid education.

This is an opportunity for a Registered Nurse to pursue a specialty Certificate through the BCIT Emergency Program. Fresh RN grads are encouraged to apply. Providence Health Care provides 100% funding for the tuition, books, and FTE wage. Upon successful completion of the program, you will work in the Emergency Department at St. Paul’s Hospital.

BCIT Schedule - Fall 2023:

- Mandatory Classroom days: Aug 21, 22, 24 & 25, 2023 from 09:00-16:00.
- Pre-requisite by distance (online): August 31-Nov 27, 2023; final exam Nov 27, 2023 (1300-1600).
- Regular Compressed Time Frame Course (CTF): Jan 9, 2024 to March 31, 2024; final exam on April 3, 2024 (09:00 - 12:00)
- All dates are currently tentative.

Within the context of a client and family centred model of care, and in accordance with the Mission, Vision, Values and strategic directions of Providence Health Care, the person promotes a safe, respectful, and civil working environment for patients, residents, families, visitors and staff.

Reporting to the Operations Leader, the Nurse:

- Assesses, identifies, plans, implements and evaluates the nursing care required to assist patients/residents in meeting their physical, social, spiritual and psychological needs using an established framework for nursing practice.
- Develops, implements, evaluates and revises the plan of care.
- Incorporates individual and/or group teaching into the care plan and nursing interventions and/or makes referrals to other identified resources.
- Supports other nurses and health care professionals by collegially sharing information and demonstrating procedures.

The Nurse works within an interdisciplinary clinical framework in accordance with the BCCNM Standards of Practice and consistent with the mission, vision and values and established protocols of Providence Health Care.

Qualifications / Skills and Education:
Education

Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

If the applicant does not possess the required qualifications, PHC will fund Post-Basic Education. Funding will consist of 100% for tuition and books; and wages at rate of 100% of posted FTE. The length of the Post-Basic Education is approximate. Eligibility for Post-Basic Education is restricted to applicant(s) with a minimum of 1-2 year medical/surgical experience (2 years preferred) and who have not received Post-Basic Education Funding from PHC for the past 2 years. Applicant must successfully complete the Post-Basic Education prior to working in the Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Reviews patient/resident status through methods such as reviewing the patient/resident chart and other written information, patient/resident observation, interviewing patient/resident and family members, completion of questionnaires, collateral information and consultation with peers and other members of the health care team.

Assesses patient/resident problems and needs, plans, implements, evaluates and prioritizes nursing care and nursing interventions and develops the plan of care for patients/residents using clinical judgement and evidence-based practice.

Provides nursing care according to identified policies and procedures, technology and PHC standards.

Monitors patient/resident progress, evaluates outcomes, reassesses if goals are not met, and modifies plan of care based on evaluation.
