Are you an Accounting Professional looking for a new and exciting challenge? Do you have a passion for client service and compliance including tax, accounting, and trust?
Our Finance & Accounting team is seeking an experienced Team Lead, Accounting Compliance to join them in a full-time permanent position in their Halifax office. As part of the Finance & Accounting team you will have the unique opportunity to work with the finance team, compliance team, Lawyers within the firm, and external regulators.
As a Team Lead, Accounting Compliance, you will be responsible for:
Liaise with the compliance team on tasks requiring accounting expertise;
Liaise with the compliance team on internal reviews requiring accounting expertise;
Act as the backup for the Compliance Officer with respect to trust compliance;
Prepare and process the T3 returns required for the Firm under the new CRA reporting rules;
Oversee and provide leadership to the Professional Corporations Accountant on a day-to-day basis and assist as backup where required;
Provide exceptional client service to lawyers, responding to enquiries on a variety of relevant matters;
Liaise between lawyers, internal and external parties including newly incorporated Partners; and,
Prepare and/or review multiple tax forms including T2, T3, T4 and T5's.
Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Accounting;
Five (5) years of related experience, with one (2) years relating to accounting and preparation of tax returns (including T2 and T3);
Knowledge of trust rules for law firms;
Fundamental knowledge of accounting and related concepts;
Knowledge of personal tax, corporate income tax and payroll remittance concepts;
Knowledge of HST/GST rules;
Outstanding client service, communication, and organizational skills;
Exceptional people management skills; and,
Exceptional technical skills, particularly with Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and accounting packages.
