**Training Coordinator - Competition 2023-072**

**Full-Time Permanent**

**Closing Date: August 23, 2023**

**Position Summary**

Under the direction of the Director of Children and Families, the Training Coordinator will play a critical role in the establishment and functioning of the Reunification Home, which aims to offer short-term placements for families in a supportive environment, with workshops and training to empower parents to take a lead role in caring for their families. The Training Coordinator will support staff development within the Reunification Home to address any outstanding barriers that prevent family preservation and reunification.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Collaborate with the Director of Children and Families, the Project Manager, Housing Administrator and other FNFAO staff to identify the key priorities and needs of First Nations families who are navigating the Child and Family Services (CFS) system and in the process of reunification.
- Conduct a thorough needs assessment to inform the development of a comprehensive Operations Plan that ensures the functionality of the Reunification Home once active.
- Based on the needs assessment, develop a comprehensive training plan that addresses the specific requirements of the families, children, and staff within the Reunification Home. This plan should cover a range of topics and deliverables, including parenting skills, child development and childminding, trauma-informed care, cultural sensitivity, building resiliency and post-reunification capacity in families and more.
- Establish an intake process and criteria to be used for accepting families into the Reunification Home in collaboration with the Housing Administrator.
- Ensure alignment between housing support and training needs. Work closely with the Housing Administrator and Project Manager using the FNFAO’s service delivery model as a foundation tool in enhancing training and support to families.
- Conduct research and seek additional resources to meet the training requirements and personnel needs for the successful operation of the Reunification Home. Identify relevant training programs, workshops, and certifications that will equip staff and parents to provide the necessary care and support for families.
- Facilitate workshops and training sessions for parents and staff to ensure they have the knowledge and skills required to care for families and to meet the project deliverables effectively. Collaborate with Elders, Knowledge Keepers and experts in traditional child-rearing practices, and community partners, as necessary.
- Develop evaluation mechanisms to assess the effectiveness of the training programs and make improvements as needed. Gather feedback from participants and track the impact of training on family outcomes.
- Engage in strategic planning and prepare regular progress reports on training activities, outcomes, and challenges. Keep detailed records of training sessions, participant and staff feedback, and any relevant data for reporting and future planning. Work with the Project Manager and Housing Administrator in preparing the annual report and proposal to seek additional funding for the next fiscal year.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**
- Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, education, or a related field. A combination of relevant education and work experience will also be considered.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in training program development and facilitation, preferably in a social services or family support setting. Experience working with First Nations families and understanding of the challenges they face is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and understanding of the unique needs and experiences of First Nations families and Nations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively deliver training and interact with families, staff, and external partners.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and contribute to a positive work environment.
- A strong commitment to supporting families and promoting family preservation and reunification with an expressed interest in reducing the number of First Nations children in care.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and emerging needs within the Reunification Home.
- Adherence to standard office practices, procedures, and confidentiality.
- Able to work flexible hours and travel upon request.
- Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.
