**Position Summary**

Under the direction and support of the Jordan’s Principle Case Manager, the Jordan’s Principle Advocate support urban First Nations families and children. Jordan’s Principle Advocate must be able to work independently and within a team environment to advocate on behalf of First Nation families.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Support First Nations families, children, and adults seeking services and resources by collaborating with provincial, federal, regional, and First Nations governments, and other agencies as needed.
- Support families in establishing a plan for addressing their concerns and needs, including referrals to relevant external contacts.
- Communicate the rationale for healthcare-specific interventions and plans.
- Collaborating with families in developing individualized care and support plans.
- Communicate to the families what personal information will be shared with external organizations.
- Coordinate with other health and social organizations to ensure families have meaningful follow-up support; ie. with nursing stations, health centres, NIHB, Patient Transportation Unit, Home Care, schools, child welfare agencies, etc.
- Maintain confidentiality according to PHIA standards.
- Consult, collaborate, and provide reports and data to FNIHB, as required.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Education & Experience**
- University degree in Social Sciences, or a related or equivalent field (i.e. Social Work, Human Justice Sociology, Indigenous Studies).
- A minimum of five (5) years’ direct experience working in the child welfare system or working with First Nations individuals.
- Superior speaking, listening, writing, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work closely with a variety of stakeholders including healthcare executives and professionals, government, and community members.
- Experience working effectively with First Nations individuals, communities, organizations, and traditional knowledge systems.
- Knowledge of and familiarity with the programs and resources available to First Nations citizens and communities, on and off Reserve, including special needs and disability services.
- Knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions, ways of knowing, socio-economic factors, and related impacts of colonization.
- Experience in using client-centred case management as a service delivery tool.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective work relationships with coworkers, clients, and external agencies.
- Demonstrate problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and with supervision.
- Fluency in a First Nations language would be an asset.
- Adhere to AMC policies, and procedures with specific attention to attendance and professional ethics.
- Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.
- Must have a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Clear Child Abuse Checks.
