The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is a national museum dedicated to the evolution, celebration and future of human rights. It is the first national museum in Canada to be built outside the National Capital Region. Located in the heart of Canada in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the CMHR rises from the Prairie earth at The Forks, which has been a meeting place for over six thousand years.
The CMHR delivers an immersive, interactive and memorable experience for visitors of every background, age and ability. **About the role**:
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is centered around the idea that respect and understanding of human rights can serve as a positive force for change in the world. The Visitor Services Representative will collaborate with others in the organization to support our collective efforts to build a workplace culture that is inclusive, equitable, innovative and focused on inspiring action.
Reporting to the Manager, Visitor Services, with daily supervision by the Assistant Manager and Team Lead, the Visitor Services Representative will be responsible for providing assistance to visitors at the information desk, scanning stations, box office and Museum boutique. The incumbent will greet visitors, provide information on the Museum’s services, products, programs and exhibitions, process sales transactions, and collect and maintain data.
**What you will do**:
- Contributes to a culture that promotes respect, equity, inclusion and innovation, and models anti-racist and accountable behaviours.
- Acts as a Museum ambassador and provides visitors with general information about services, programs, exhibits and wayfinding.
- Contributes to revenue generation through creative sales tactics and strategies.
- Acts as a first point of contact to escalate visitor service issues to the appropriate staff member.
- Processes the sale of tickets, memberships, merchandise and gift cards in person, online and over the phone using the Museum’s POS systems, (Tessitura/Counterpoint/Shopify).
- Collects and maintains accurate data in the Museum’s customer relationship management system.
- Maintains broad knowledge of retail product benefits and features, Museum promotions and programming activities.
- Provides support through general administrative support and data maintenance responsibilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
**What we're looking for**:
- High school diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of one year of experience working in customer service, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Commitment to human rights principles, including respect, equity, inclusion and dignity for all.
- Ability to communicate proficiently in both official languages.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Available to work shifts (weekdays, weekends, evenings and general holidays).
**Desired Qualifications**:
- Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Experience operating a POS (point of sale) system and/or an inventory management system.
- The ability to communicate in additional languages, spoken or visual (e.g., ASL or LSQ).
**Official Language Proficiency**:
- B - Oral Proficiency (Intermediate), B - Written Comprehension (Intermediate)

**Other**:
- Flexible hours of work, including weekdays, weekends, evenings and holidays.
- Requirement to wear a Canadian Museum for Human Rights issued uniform.
- A considerable amount of standing is required or the ability to remain stationed in one location.
- Occasional heavy lifting is required (up to 20 kilograms/ 44 pounds).
