Williams Lake, Canada Williams Lake First Nation Full time

(PSE) school students, to assist them with successful completion and assistance in school. The Education Coordinator establishes effective working relationships with independent schools, School District #27, post-secondary institutes, and other external contacts. Provides professional employment and career counselling and planning with a variety of clients within WLFN utilizing a case management approach. Work with students to develop an employment action plan with a goal of achieving a long-term attachment to the labour market. Work involves referring students to employment/career and training programs, the provision of related job search and labour market information, networking with community agencies and promoting employment and career related programs through counselling, presentations, and workshops. Provide one-on-one interaction with each WLFN member to assist in exploring The Education Coordinator is responsible for providing services to elementary, secondary, and post-secondary education personal interests and how it can connect to a career.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Career Planning and Support**
- Provides career counselling to a variety of members including youth, and young adults, with focus on being early enough to set a career path. Assist members to gather education and employment history.
- Assists members with the development of an employment action plan to obtain a long-term attachment to the labour market.
- Works with Employment Coordinator to assist clients with interview and job search techniques, resume and cover letter writing; Advocates on behalf of members for employment funding, short term training requests, etc.; Prepares and delivers a variety of workshops and presentations related to employment and education path information, employment readiness skills, and career and employment information
- Receives client referrals and refers clients to community agencies for services, programs, and
- Updates a variety of computer databases with client
- Liaises and networks with community partners, businesses, and various government
- Completes assessments on clients to gather education and employment
- Participates with Universities, Colleges and School Districts in the deliberations and development of existing or new post-secondary programs.
- Participates in discussions to include the opportunity of post secondary certificate one year course programs within Secondary Education.
- Aids in career development and with partnership development.
- Monitors budgets related to client involvement in career programs and specific program budgets, as well as ongoing client paths and tracks progress through regular touch points.

**School Support Functions**
- Ensures school visits on a regular basis and maintains contact with the student, parent(s), teacher(s), and Principal(s), institutes.
- Ensures students foster positive relationships with their teachers, families, and peers.
- Ensures important information is relayed to parents regarding the student to and from the home and school (e.g., grades, attendance, additional support needs)
- Maintains the log in and uses the SD #27 My Ed program to review all the WLFN Nominal Roll students’ academic program and attendance.
- Participates in school activities where appropriate.
- Ensures that the student is engaged and progressing at school and takes appropriate action to encourage improvements.
- Maintains records of all students for their academic career and other pertinent information required.
- Utilizes outside agencies where appropriate to assist with students’ success.
- Creates and administers celebration/recognition activities for the students.
- Participation on the First Nation Education Council (SD#27) as a member on behalf of the Williams Lake First Nation.
- Ensure all WLFN administration documents for K-12 and PSE student records are upheld and completed by deadlines for Nominal Roll and PSE reporting including F197 Waiver Forms, monthly allowances, incentives for program delivery etc.
- Responsible for participating in negotiations and maintaining the 5-year Local Education Agreement with SD #27 and independent schools.
- Ensure the Director of Education is informed of sensitive and important issues and events.
- Supports the mission, vision, and values of Williams Lake First Nation.
- Contributes to the WLFN’s ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as required_ or assigned._
