SSi designs, builds, and operates telecommunications networks in Canada’s North. SSi’s mission is to provide high-quality, high-capacity and affordable broadband connectivity to remote or isolated First Nations communities.
Being the North’s premier broadband and mobile wireless technology company, SSi has been providing Internet service to over 50 remote and underserved communities across the NWT and Nunavut since 2005. Continuing its expansion, SSi is currently deploying and delivering mobile wireless broadband services across the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region of Québec.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
As a Surveillance & Operations Specialist, you are a technological leader working in a team whose mission is to ensure that SSi maintains the highest quality of service for its customers.
The general duties include:
- Monitor and surveil all network elements using various Network Monitoring Systems (NMS) and Operational Support Systems (OSS) from vendor, in house and 3rd party provided;
- Provide fault management including responding to alarms, ticket creation, fault isolation, detailed troubleshooting, escalation and reporting to other teams until service is restored;
- Produce accurate trouble ticketing and operational reporting;
- Perform configuration and change management including setting up and testing of network elements as well as approving and monitoring all change activities that take place over the network;
- Identify continuous process improvement initiatives that will reduce manual intervention and handoffs between departments;
- Ensure operational knowledge base is continuously up-to-date by working with Engineering teams and others to define information and procedural requirements; and
- Assist platform specialists and Network Engineering to research and plan technical solutions, conduct vendor selection, design and implement new services and systems into SSi's network.
WHAT DO YOU NEED?
- Degree or certification in electronics, telecommunications, electrical engineering and/or computer science.
- 5+ years of experience in the telecommunications industry
- 5+ years of experience with wireless networks (GSM & LTE), LAN, WAN and MPLS networking.
- 5+ years of experience using NMS / OSS network monitoring tools and ticketing systems.
- 5+ years of experience with Unix / Linux administration.
- Availability to work varying shifts: day time, afternoon and night rotational shifts.
- Excellent problem-solving and technical troubleshooting skills.
Nice to have:
- Certifications: CCNA, CCNP, ITIL, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+
- Familiar with various satellite telecom technologies and hardware.
