**Position**: Digital Literacy Facilitator

**Term**: Full Time - 35 hours per week (September 2023 - March 31, 2024)

**Reports to**: Manager, Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)

**Location**: 1800 Bank Street - Ottawa

**Position Summary**

As digital technology and computer use become widespread and necessary for success in today’s life, online learning methods are also becoming more common in settlement language training.

OCISO is playing an important role in supporting newcomers through their settlement journey in the digital age and is offering LINC online learning which allows more newcomers to access classroom language training, allows more flexibility for those with job and family commitments and increases one’s comfort with official languages through digital literacy.

The primary purpose of a Digital Literacy Facilitator (DLF) is to assist clients and OCISO staff with digital literacy and accessing online and remote learning services. The Facilitator will support all OCISO clients and staff, with a focus on LINC students and LINC teachers. The staff will deliver one on one and group sessions to clients and staff to help optimize online and hybrid language learning and access to settlement services. The DLF will deliver in-person sessions using our computer lab when possible (in line with potential COVID restrictions. The Facilitator will coordinate the loan of devices (Chromebooks or laptops) to students or other clients without access to online services.

**Main Responsibilities**:

- Provide digital literacy training and support for LINC students prior to the start of their

LINC class
- Increase digital literacy skills for adult newcomers
- Develop and provide ongoing training and support for LINC instructors to learn, adapt and deliver online or hybrid English lessons
- Assist students and staff, one-on-one and in groups, in resolving technical issues by providing guidance with a sense of urgency
- Troubleshoot recurring issues and able to research, identify and communicate root cause
- Coordinate and conduct technical skill-building training sessions for Chromebooks, laptops, desktops and on-line platforms to students and staff
- Develop and maintain knowledge and skills through self-guided training, attending regular meetings and training activities
- Draft communication surrounding updates, distribution, and outages of tools and platforms
- Create and maintain knowledge-base articles of relevant technologies, products, services, and best practices where appropriate
- Create and maintain internal training documentation, troubleshooting tips, FAQs, and resolutions to common issues
- Provide feedback on trend analysis for continual improvement and provide solution options for gaps
- Assist in special projects and perform additional assignments as directed by leadership

**Qualifications**:

- Successful completion of post-secondary education, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field
- Strong digital literacy skills and technical aptitude
- Understanding of adult learners’ different digital levels and needs
- Experience in curriculum development
- Motivated self-starter with excellent time management and customer service skills
- Energized by working in a collaborative environment
- High proficiency in spoken and written English; additional language an asset
- Highly developed interpersonal skills: positive, enthusiastic, collaborative, and solution

**Salary & Benefits**: $28.88 per hour plus 4% vacation pay. (Note: structured unpaid breaks include year-end, March and summer months).
