**Role Responsibilities**:
The Forestry Division of the Ministry of Forestry and Parks (the Division) is seeking an engaging, collaborative, and team-oriented individual who has knowledge as well as experience fostering relationships and engaging Indigenous communities.
- Reporting to the Director, Indigenous Liaison, the key responsibilities include:

- Developing and managing productive and respectful working relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations as well as stakeholders and representative organizations on behalf of the Division
- Leading and/or supporting the development and implementation of policy, protocols, guidance, procedures, and best practices and training to build and maintain Divisional competencies and cultural awareness to support meaningful consultation and engagement with Indigenous people, communities and organizations
- Supporting Forestry’s participation on cross-ministry groups considering and addressing Indigenous issues relevant to forestry activities in the province

The role involves managing complex and politically sensitive consultation and engagement processes. The successful incumbent will be responsible for developing responses to both emerging and systemic issues effectively.

**Qualifications**:
University degree (4 years) in a related field (e.g. communications, marketing, public relations, public administration, natural resources, environmental sciences, Indigenous studies) supplemented with at least 6 years demonstrated experience in engagement/consultation, integrated planning, and policy development.
- Required:

- Experience working with Indigenous peoples and a range of other stakeholders
- A valid Class 5 Drivers license
- Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year education.
- Assets:

- Detailed knowledge of forest management principles and practices
- Knowledge of ministry-specific legislation, regulations, policies, mandates, and direction
- Experience with Alberta's policies, guidelines, and procedures for engaging with First Nations and Métis Settlements
- Awareness of reconciliation efforts with Indigenous Peoples, including the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, and the National Action Plan on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls
- Government of Alberta decision-making processes
- Indigenous, Stakeholders, Public and community issues in the natural resources sectors
- Constitutional matters, Indigenous case law and Crown treaty obligations, provincially and federally
- Alberta First Nations and Métis communities, Indigenous history and culture, Indigenous organizations as well as the cultural, geographic, environmental, economic and social differences of Indigenous people in Alberta
