**Job summary**

We are seeking an Indigenous Education Specialist to lead and enhance our educational initiatives specifically tailored for Indigenous communities. The role involves developing and delivering culturally relevant educational materials, fostering relationships with Indigenous stakeholders, and contributing to anti-trafficking efforts through an Indigenous lens. This position will require an individual who can jump in feet first, excel at communication and public speaking, and can work both independently and collaboratively with the ACT Alberta team.

**Duties and Responsibilities**

The Indigenous Education Specialist plays a vital role within the Community Engagement team, embodying the values of respect, cultural integrity, and dedication. In their public-facing role, they must navigate interactions with diverse stakeholder groups with deep cultural awareness, patience, and collaborative spirit, upholding the principles of diplomacy and community-building.

**Educational Content Development**:

- Create, curate, and deliver educational materials that address anti-human trafficking issues from an Indigenous perspective.
- Ensure content is culturally sensitive, accurate, trauma-informed, and person-centered.
- Develop and implement training programs and workshops for Indigenous communities, organizations, and allies.

**Stakeholder Engagement**:

- Build and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, leaders, and organizations.
- Collaborate with Indigenous stakeholders to understand their unique needs and integrate their feedback into educational programming.
- Pursue partnerships and opportunities for outreach in both rural and urban Indigenous communities.

**Program Management**:

- Oversee the administration of educational programs, including scheduling, coordinating training sessions, and managing logistics.
- Collect, analyze, and report on program data to assess effectiveness and support continuous improvement.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and contribute to organizational assessments.

**Public Outreach and Communication**:

- Develop and manage public-facing materials, including website content and social media, to raise awareness about anti-human trafficking issues within Indigenous contexts.
- Engage with community members and handle inquiries effectively, providing support and information as needed.

**Cultural Competency and Advocacy**:

- Advocate for Indigenous perspectives and ensure that educational initiatives are respectful and inclusive.
- Stay informed about current issues affecting Indigenous communities and incorporate this knowledge into educational strategies.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Understanding of human trafficking and related issues; experience working on complex social issues and gender-based violence.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Indigenous Studies, Education, Social Work, or a related field, or equivalent related experience will be considered
- Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering educational programs, particularly within Indigenous communities.
- Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and the impact of human trafficking on Indigenous populations.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders and communities.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Proficiency in using digital tools and platforms for content creation and management.
- Knowledge of anti-human trafficking issues and a commitment to social justice.

**Physical Requirements:  **
- Ability to travel throughout Alberta, including some overnight and multi-day trips. Occasional driving as part of work duties.
- Ability to access rural areas that may include unpaved areas/roads/pathways.
- Ability to carry and set up materials (brochures, books, etc.) for information table displays.
- Occasional time outside in all weather conditions.
- Continuous extended periods of sitting, standing, or walking (sometimes up or down stairwells).
