**Travel**: 25% (required) with the potential to be higher

**Job summary**
In addition, this role will collaborate with Indigenous communities, while supporting the growth of ACT’s reach and services within Indigenous communities This work directly impacts ACT Alberta’s ability to provide programs and services that support victims/survivors of human trafficking on their path to safety.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES **
The Indigenous Cultural Safety Specialist plays a key role in the Community Engagement team, exemplifying excellence in professionalism, communication, and work ethic. In their public-facing capacity, they must demonstrate exceptional diplomacy, patience, and collaboration with diverse stakeholder groups. Additionally, the Specialist will work in collaboration with the Indigenous Outreach Specialist and Indigenous Education Specialist to provide support and guidance on the development of Indigenous outreach programming and education.
**Key Responsibilities**:
**Cultural Safety**: Collaborate with ACT’s leadership team to conduct internal assessments to help identify areas where cultural safety can be improved within the organization; provide recommendations and support the development of action plans to address organizational gaps.
**Training and Education**:Design, deliver, and evaluate cultural safety training programs for staff, management, and other stakeholders. Ensure training materials are relevant, accurate, and respectful.
**Policy Development**:Collaborate with leadership to review, develop, and implement policies and procedures that reflect cultural safety principles and Indigenous perspectives.
**Community Engagement**: Build and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities, leaders, and organizations. Ensure their voices are heard and considered in organizational practices and decision-making.
**Advisory Role**:Serve as a cultural advisor to various departments and teams, offering guidance on best practices for working with Indigenous peoples and addressing cultural concerns.
**Resource Development**:Create and maintain resources and tools that support cultural safety, including guidelines, handbooks, and reference materials.
**Monitoring and Reporting**: Track and report on the effectiveness of cultural safety initiatives. Provide regular updates to leadership and recommend improvements based on feedback and outcomes.
**Advocacy**: Advocate for the integration of Indigenous perspectives and cultural safety within organizational programs, services, and outreach efforts.
**QUALIFICATIONS **
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Indigenous Studies, Cultural Studies, Social Work, or a related field. Relevant certifications or advanced degrees are a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working with Indigenous communities or in a role focused on cultural safety, equity, and inclusion.
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and contemporary issues. Familiarity with cultural safety principles and practices.
- Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong facilitation and training abilities. Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
- Cultural Competency: Demonstrated commitment to cultural safety and a respectful approach to working with Indigenous peoples.
- Personal Attributes: Empathy, cultural sensitivity, and a proactive attitude towards learning and addressing cultural issues.
**Preferred Qualifications**:
- Experience in policy development and implementation related to cultural safety and Indigenous rights.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and frameworks affecting Indigenous peoples.
- Fluency in an Indigenous language is an asset.
**Physical Requirements: **
- Ability to travel throughout Alberta, including some overnight and multi-day trips. Occasional driving as part of work duties.
- Ability to access rural areas that may include unpaved areas/roads/pathways.
- Ability to carry and set up materials (brochures, books, etc.) for information table displays.
- Occasional time outside in all weather conditions.
- Continuous extended periods of sitting, standing, or walking (sometimes up or down stairwells).
