**Position Overview**
The **Technical Operations Group** within the **Faculty of Science **is currently seeking a Full-time Temporary Relief **Infrastructure/Space Technical Support Specialist **for approximately 9-10 months.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the incumbent is the Space Specialist for the Faculty of Science and is responsible for all physical and technical infrastructure within the Faculty of Science. Responsibilities include strategic planning, budget management within projects, management of all physical infrastructure and facilities that support the teaching, research and administrative functions of the Faculty. The infrastructure spans 8 buildings, occupying roughly 200,000 m2, and includes buildings, laboratories, classrooms and offices, as well as field stations and greenhouses, serving the needs of the Faculty's academic and administrative activities. As the primary point of contact for the Faculty on all matters of infrastructure, space and projects, this role requires flexibly in working hours, as dictated by its responsibilities and necessity to achieve outcomes, particularly for time sensitive projects or during periods of high demand.
**Position Description**
**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
Physical and Technical Infrastructure
- Implement all of the space and physical infrastructure plans of the Faculty of Science by developing and administering policies and processes relating to their allocation, utilization, development and renovation
- Facilitate and execute the effective use of space and resources within the Faculty of Science (as approved by the Manager of Science Technical Services and in alignment with Campus standards, the Academic Plan, the Space Master Plan)
- Based on University and Faculty priorities, identify needs for additional space, major renovation requirements and potential capital projects
Strategic Planning
- Assist in devising short and long term plans for physical development of the Faculty; regularly provide updated information, to the Manager of Science Technical Services, for Campus Planning
- Develop proposals and functional designs for significant renovations, upgrades and new buildings (i.e. Capital Projects), to ensure that they support the long-term physical planning goals of the Faculty, working with Campus Planning
- Working with Campus Planning and Science Departments, develop, maintain and implement the space database
- Proactively contribute to the development and implementation of policies, strategies, procedures and processes across the Faculty
Leadership and Administration
- Serve as a critical resource to the Manager Science Technical Services and designated space contacts in each department of Science including assisting with compliance with all applicable government legislation and University policies
- Provide in-scope supervision to the Space Admin Coordinator in the Faculty of science
- Communicate regularly, both formally and informally, with the Manager Science Technical Services, Faculty Administration Assistants, Administrative Services Zone manager, and with the Campus Planning regarding the space management and capital projects
- Formal, written reporting to the Manager Science Technical Services on all projects as required, including assisting with preparation of proposals such as FAR/CAR and ELT OPs submission
- Positive working relationships with Faculty of Science staff and faculty as well as University partners and stakeholders to be developed and maintained
**Qualifications / Requirements**:
Education
- Qualifications in engineering, project management, or facilities design or equivalent experience
- Minimum 7 years of experience with a large research university or other large, complex teaching organization in Space Specialization is required
- Knowledge research and teaching environments in Science, including infrastructure requirements
- Experience in strategic planning with an emphasis on planning for capital projects for academic and research purposes, space related projects is required
- A strong understanding of and experience with building design, construction, engineering systems practices and operations is required
