**Position Overview**

**Information Technologies** is currently seeking a Full-time Regular **Specialist, Systems Infrastructure**.

This position reports to the Team Lead, Infrastructure Services and will be responsible for the operation of the University's administration compute platforms (server and operating systems) as well as be involved with supporting IT projects. There may be a requirement for after-hours work, depending on the nature of the work.

**Position Description**

**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
Requirements Gathering
- Work with customers, IT Partners, Project Managers, and representatives from various faculties/departments on campus to understand technical requirements or issues
- Assist and define technical standards

Project Management
- Work with the design or project teams to list tasks, and track the work required for the technical items on projects
- Ensure all systems are aligned with the IT's architectural standards and roadmaps
- Assist and contribute to the success of a project deployment with regards to the compute/server/storage operations
- Actively participate in assigned projects delivering consulting, installation and support services

- Operational upgrades coordination and implementation
- Lifecycle management of hardware and software assets

Documentation
- Responsible for ensuring all documentation is detailed, accurate, timely, and meets the requirements of the project stakeholders and operational excellence. These documents may include, but are not limited to:

- Consolidated design, showing both logical and physical layout
- System build guides
- Standard operating procedures for daily activities
- Service catalog request items
- Incident handling and tracking
- Release documentation
- Support documentation, FAQs, known issues, errors
- Requests for Change
- CMDB add/change/remove data
- Develop technical documentation and guidelines

Technical Expertise
- Skills for infrastructure as code automation and orchestration for infrastructure operations
- Workflow automation tools
- Puppet, Ansible, or PowerShell scripting
- Contribute to the design process using his/her own technical expertise and challenge design team members on their technical recommendations where needed and appropriate
- Expected to have a working knowledge of a wide range of server, storage, and network systems
- Participate in vendor roadmap sessions and work with IT Architecture to develop new standards to drive innovation in the technical service realm
- Take on responsibility for self-study and learning to remain well-versed in a wide range of technologies and systems
- Install, administer and provide technical support for the Windows/VMware/Linux server systems. Including OS installation, patching and security configuration
- Install, administer and provide technical support for the virtualized environment (e.g. VMware, Hyper-V, Citrix, etc.) including OS installation, patching and security configuration
- Administer and provide technical support for the Windows Active Directory (e.g. users, groups, permissions, etc. related to file shares)
- Follow technical documentation and guidelines
- Provide operational guidance to new team members
- File share support, troubleshooting and maintenance
- Storage system support, troubleshooting
- Take corrective action to ensure connectivity and minimize downtime to the compute/server/storage operations
- Draw on experience and knowledge of Enterprise IT environment to propose a temporary work-around with aim of mitigating impact to production system if issues arise
- Follow the procedures in place to effectively remediate all network incidents with the intent of minimizing the business impact and restoring operational capabilities as soon as possible in conjunction with the network team

**Qualifications / Requirements**:

- University degree or professional certification such as MCSA/MCSE, CCNA,VCDX, VCP, or RHCE recommended
- Minimum of 5-7 years of recent related experience equivalent to the above
- Senior knowledge of operating system technologies including Windows, Linux, VMware
- Knowledge of network technologies such as DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, firewalls
- Physical and Virtual server knowledge and skillset
- File share administration and concept understanding
- Ability to raise, facilitate, escalate and resolve business and technical issues
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely to diverse audiences, in both oral and written form
- Capable of working on concurrent projects and managing conflicting priorities
- Ability to translate technical jargon into business-friendly language
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Routine access to sensitive information and maintaining confidence of the organizations information
