The Centre for Caribbean Studies offers the only program in Canada with degrees specifically dedicated to the study of the Caribbean and its people. The program consists of courses in Caribbean history, literature and thought which deal with a wide range of issues including gender, religion, politics, culture, ethnicity, race, development, language, colonialism, environment and regional common markets. The Centre isan intellectual hub of academics and learners with shared commitments to Caribbean Studies as an area of interdisciplinary focus for research, teaching, learning and community engagement.

**Your opportunity**:
Reporting to the Director of Caribbean Studies, the incumbent is responsible for performing day-to-day financial and administrative operations to ensure the efficient operation of the Centre for Caribbean Studies. The incumbent plays a critical role in running the Centre with financial duties including budgeting, forecasting, monitoring an administrative budget from operating funds, trust accounts, and other sources of revenue. The Business Officer will also review and process invoices, expense reimbursements, purchase orders, and purchase requisitions, perform monthly reconciliations on departmental and research accounts, and processing and reconciling payroll. Administrative duties include acting as the first point of contact and assisting with inquiries and needs of the Centre.

**Your responsibilities will include**:

- Forecasting, planning and monitoring multiple complex budgets
- Analyzing financial trends and preparing analytical reportsand forecasts for management decision making
- Monitoring department budget to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations
- Processing payroll
- Processing accounts receivable according to the University Guide to Financial Management
- Processing accounts payable according to the University Guide to Financial Management
- Developing and revising business methods that support administrative workflow and objectives
- Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements

**Essential Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's Degree in accounting, business administration, commerce, or related field or an acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum four years of recent and related experience with financial management, including forecasting, managing, analyzing, and preparing budgets, preferably in post-secondary education or research-intensive institutions.
- Experience reporting, monitoring and reconciling financial activity and payroll distribution, including preparing financial statements.
- Experience analyzing financial information and producing statistical reports.
- Experience with processing and reconciling financial and payroll transactions.
- Advanced skills working in FIS and HRIS, or similar administrative systems.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
- Strong aptitude for numbers and analyses.
- Sound judgement, excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent and effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, planning, and time-management skills.
- Demonstrated strong client service orientation and commitment to fostering equity, diversity and inclusion in a professional environment.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment, tact and diplomacy, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
