Summary

DSAS is hiring the Policy & Office Coordinator for the 2023-2024 term of September 1, 2023 - April 30, 2024. The Policy & Office Coordinator is works for 15 hours per week at $16.55 per hour.

DSAS is an organization that seeks to support students in navigating University policies and processes. We deal with academic and Student Code of Conduct cases, as well as those pursuant to other University policies. We participate in facilitating informal and formal resolutions. DSAS is seeking to welcome an incoming Executive team that will work together to support a roster of hard-working advocates in handling an increasing demand for services.

**Responsibilities**:
Policy Development
- Co-Chair the Education Policy and Outreach Committee;
- Hold regular meetings for advocate volunteers in the policy committee and organize volunteers in the review and implementation of policy committee objectives;
- Represent DSAS on University policy working groups as the occasion arises;
- Liaise with student societies on campus to assist in the creation and revision of their policies;
- Identify any policy related issues and inform relevant university departments or positions, for example the Ombudsperson or Residence Life Director;
Policy Support and Navigation
- Actively take on policy and academic appeal related cases, including but not limited to the Student Code of Conduct, Sexualized Violence Policy, Residence Code of Conduct;
- Act as a lead support for advocates taking on policy and academic appeal cases;
- Update internal database of relevant university policies for DSAS advocate use;
Office Management
- Manage the volunteer staffing of the DSAS office;
- Ensure the office is in orderly condition;
- Manage office bookings, for example AIOs, intake meetings, SDC hearings;
Internal DSAS Duties
- Be familiar with University policies and procedures and prepared to respond to policy-related questions;
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies or other concerns in the policies, procedures or in their operation;
- Assist the Executive team with advocate training in September and January;
- Assist with Education & Outreach initiatives as needed, such as tabling or presentations;
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Managers;
- Take cases as needed;
- Prepare an annual report concerning their duties to be submitted to the External Relations Manager no later than April 30, 2024.

Qualifications and Skills:
Required:

- Current Schulich School of Law student;
- Current (or former) DSAS volunteer

Recommended:

- Excellent organizational skills;
- Experience managing volunteers;
- Case experience;
- Knowledge of Dalhousie internal policies;
- Knowledge of Dalhousie academic appeal routes;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to work independently;
- Self-motivated;
- Strong commitment to DSAS mandate;
- Experience doing policy design, revision and implementation;
- Demonstrated commitment to anti-oppressive practices.
