**About Us**:
The Ministry of Affordability and Utilities (AU) leads and coordinates the government’s actions to deliver immediate cost-of-living and inflation relief, support long-term affordability and oversee a safe, reliable and affordable utility system.

Affordability and Utilities’ mandate includes advancing a modern, safe and reliable utilities system that meets the everyday needs of all Albertans, attracts investment and supports job creation. In addition, the Affordability and Utilities’ efforts focus on coordinating and collaborating with other departments to provide timely, effective relief where it is needed most including advancing affordability of insurance, housing and food costs.

**Role**:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager of Policy and Performance to lead the strategic planning, legislative agenda and policy coordination efforts for the Ministry. This key role will play a crucial part in driving effective governance and policy development within the department.

The Manager of Policy and Performance will be responsible for guiding the strategic direction of the Ministry through effective policy coordination, legislative planning and business performance management. Expertise with ensuring the alignment of policies with the Ministry's goals while championing initiatives is needed to reduce bureaucratic red tape. Leading a dedicated team, the incumbent will foster a high-performing work environment and coordinate relationships with various agencies, boards and commissions to ensure compliance as well as good governance.

**Key Responsibilities of the Manager of Policy and Performance includes**:

- Developing and managing the strategic legislative and policy framework for the Ministry
- Implement policy, appointment and legislative processes to support key departmental areas
- Regularly align with relevant offices to confirm policy priorities and timelines
- Reviewing and aligning business plan objectives and legislation for policy implementation.
- Providing expert advice on policy and initiatives throughout the Ministry
- Leading strategic, business and operational planning, meeting GoA standards
- Overseeing the Red Tape Reduction initiative and ensuring alignment with the Secretariat
- Coordinating relationships with Agencies, Boards and Commissions ensuring compliance with the _Alberta Public Agencies Governance Act_ (APAGA)
- Managing the Policy and Planning team, fostering a high-performing and respectful workplace

**Qualifications**:
**Required**:

- 4 years university graduation in a field related to the position assignment (Public Admin. and Arts), supplemented by four years related experience.

**Equivalency**:

- Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis (one year of education for one year of experience or vise versa).

**Experience**:

- Strong understanding of linkages between policy, planning, regulatory decision-making, monitoring, evaluation and reporting. Ability to navigate policy development processes effectively.
- Knowledge of government business plan goals, policy directions, organizational structure and Agencies, Boards and Commissions' functions. Understanding the political context in which the Ministry operates.
- Familiarity with public administration practices, government processes, procedures and best practices.
- Knowledge of applicable policy, legislation and regulations at provincial and federal levels. Ensuring policy alignment and compliance.
- Understanding of governance principles and mandates of Agencies, Boards, and Commissions. Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidelines.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of professionals, fostering a high-performing work environment.
