Ronald McDonald House Charities® South Central Ontario (RMHC® SCO) is part of a network of 13 Ronald McDonald House Chapters across Canada. We provide a home away from home for families of children who are seriously ill and being treated at nearby hospitals. Built in 1993 and located next to McMaster Children’s Hospital, RMHC® SCO is independently owned and operated governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, managed by a small staff team, and supported by a full complement of dedicated volunteers.

RMHC® SCO expanded from our original 15-bedroom home to a 39-bedroom house and reopened in the Spring of 2012 to serve more families in their time of need. We also operate and provide service to more than 150,000 people each year at our two-Family Rooms within McMaster Children’s Hospital.

**JOB SUMMARY**
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and overseeing volunteer activities within RMHC® SCO for a group of 200+ volunteers. The Volunteer Coordinator will work with the Senior Manager, Human Resources to develop and progress RMHC® SCO’s volunteer program.

**GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Effectively communicate RMHC® SCO’s mission and motivate volunteers to support the mission
- Recruit, screen, interview, onboard, train, supervise and engage individual and group volunteers, as needs are identified
- Collaborate in the creation of training materials for volunteers
- Continually assess number of volunteers to support core volunteer program
- Liaise with RMHC® SCO departments to fulfill volunteer needs and expand operational capacity through engaging and meaningful volunteer opportunities
- Collaborate with RMHC® SCO departments related to the development of training documents
- Place volunteers in different roles within the House and Family Rooms based on their qualifications
- Respond to current volunteer questions/concerns/shift changes and cancellations
- Provide information to individuals inquiring about individual and group volunteer opportunities with RMHC® SCO
- Execute the Advancement Department’s group volunteer Mission Experiences
- Gather information to evaluate volunteer performance and provide timely feedback
- Coordinate volunteer recognition, recognition events, and awards (certificates/mementos)
- Create and maintain volunteer schedule in support of business operations
- Provide regular reporting and respond to requests for statistics-related information from internal and external stakeholders
- Complete volunteer verifications and reference checks (as appropriate) to confirm volunteer hours
- Other related duties as assigned
- Attend and participate in House events as required

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Passion for making a difference in the lives of the families we serve
- College or University degree in Volunteer Management or related field is an asset
- Previous work or volunteer experience supporting and coordinating a volunteer base is preferred
- Experience with volunteer management software (Volgistics, WhenToHelp) is preferred
- 1-2 years recruitment experience is an asset
- 1-2 years project management/scheduling experience is an asset
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills
- Works effectively with, and demonstrates respect for others
- Experience and comfort using Microsoft Office products
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent time management and organization skills - ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines
- Flexible and solution-oriented
- Self-motivated to achieve results
