**CONTRIBUTING TO THE CMPA**

Equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) are vital to healthcare. We know members and patients experience racism and inequities which can significantly affect physicians, threaten patient safety, and create medico-legal risk. The CMPA has a responsibility to address this risk and help mitigate bias and inequities in the services we provide and in our own workplace.

**POSITION OVERVIEW**

A dynamic, strategic and collaborative leader, the Strategic Lead, EDI effects change with sensitivity, humility, sound judgment, and patience, and demonstrates a strong commitment to improvement in the status of Indigenous persons, Black persons, racialized persons, 2SLGBTQ+ persons, persons living with disabilities, women and all other equity groups.

**POSITION ACTIVITIES**

**Strategic Leadership***:

- Coordinate implementation of the Association’s EDI strategy, framework and action plans, and associated communications and change enablement strategies.
- Collaborate with senior leaders and key stakeholders to advance transformative strategies, policies and programs for meaningful EDI uptake and progress across the organization.
- Develop and support mechanisms for continued communication and consultation to better understand, support and pinpoint areas that are opportunities for positive change.
- Collaborate with internal partners to develop internal and external monitoring and reporting mechanisms for EDI data and strategic objectives.
- Partner with Communications to develop and execute an internal and external EDI communications strategy
- Provide exemplary leadership in the establishment and management of a professional and collegial team dynamic and working environment within the EDI Office.

**Advice and Expertise**:

- Lead the EDI Steering Committee and provide guidance and support to employee resource groups to deepen understanding of the organization’s EDI priorities and overall principles to ensure alignment of organization-wide EDI efforts and promote engagement and two-way communication.
- Support senior leaders and other EDI leads in integrating EDI throughout their operations in the spirit of continuous improvement.
- Provide advice on the review and analysis of organizational systems, policies and practices through an EDI lens and, where necessary, assist with the development and implementation of policies that remove systemic barriers and improve inclusion for all.
- Collaborate with People & Culture to promote diversity in internal and external recruitment and selection initiatives and in ensuring culturally safe, equitable and inclusive workplace practices.
- Collaborate with Learning to review the CMPA’s internal and external learning programs with an EDI lens and to contribute to the development of curriculum and learning plans that build understanding of systemic racism, underrepresented and marginalized groups and cultural competency for all staff.
- Oversee and coordinate EDI-related staff events, activities and resources in support of building and developing a culturally competent workforce.
- Recognize and celebrate success in advancing the Association’s EDI Strategy.
- Monitor emerging trends and EDI best practices and provide advice and recommendations to inform future EDI strategies and policies.
- Stay current on equity related issues, relevant legislation and best practices
- Establish and develop internal and external community partnerships and networks to advance EDI. Nurture external alliances, partnerships and collaborations with EDI stakeholders and opinion leaders.
- Actively engage in critical reflection and dialogue about equity, anti-racism, and inclusive principles and model the implementation of social justice principles in the workplace.

**People Leadership***:

- Provide direction, coaching, motivation and advice to direct report(s) as well as other indirect reports on project teams or cross-departmental working groups.
- Perform people leadership duties such as developing job descriptions, recruiting new employees, managing employee performance, and developing and communicating operational and strategic plans.

Performs other EDI-relevant duties and roles as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
- Level of education, training and experience equivalent to an undergraduate degree in diversity studies, human rights, social justice or a related field.
- 5+ years of related experience planning and delivering strategies, programs and practices related to EDI in a complex, consensus-driven environment.
- Experience addressing complex equity, diversity and human rights issues, traditionally acquired through lived experience as a member of a marginalized group.
- Experience developing and advancing anti-racism, human rights, Truth and Reconciliation initiatives, gender equity and 2SLGBTQ+ rights and initiatives within an organization, community or communit
