Social Emotional Coach

General Description
The Social Emotional Student Coach reports to the School Principal or designate, and works closely with the Student Support Team at the district and school level, to provide a variety of individual and group support to students. The Social Emotional Student Coach is familiar with many of the challenges facing students and families at home, school and in the community. They will also be informed about community services, programs and resources so they can work with the School Based Support Team to provide comprehensive support for each student referred.
The Social Emotional Student Coach will have ongoing professional development, training and monitoring to ensure the language, approaches and methodology is congruent and respectful with other specialists and support personnel working with students who exhibit trauma and challenging behaviors. The Regional Inclusive Schooling Coordinator (RISC) works closely with the school principal to set up a year plan.
Required Education and Recommended Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience
Must hold, or be eligible for a(n) NWT Teaching Certificate
B.Ed with specialization in Inclusive Schooling
Experience working as a Program Support Teacher
Experience working with diverse learners
Knowledge of trans-generational impact of residential schooling
Knowledge of cultural factors that impact the learning, school success and the social / emotional development
Knowledge of the functions of behaviour, self regulation, trauma and healing supports for children and youth
Knowledge of relationship building
Knowledge of low incidence arousal strategies
Knowledge of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Strategies and SIVA (Supporting Individuals with Valued Attachment)
Knowledge of collaboration and multidisciplinary approaches within a school environment.

Ability to manage challenging behaviour both verbal, physical and emotional in nature.
Ability to work with children who have diverse trauma and/or neurodiversity
