- **Role Summary**_

Home Base is seeking experienced, dynamic and motivated individuals to fill casual/ part-time positions as a Youth Support Worker within the following Programs: Emergency Overnight Shelter, Dorms, and the Semi-Independent Living Program.

Home Base programs support youth to achieve increased independence, reconnection with family and/or important people in their lives, and to function more successfully in the community, while residing in a safe and supportive housing environment.

Home Base offers a comprehensive onboarding process, including 4 foundational training modules, shadow shifts within all three elements of the Home Base Yellowknife Program, professional development opportunities.
- **Responsibilities**_
- Supervision of youth across 8-10hr shifts (_days, evenings, overnights/ 7 days a week)_)
- Support youth to meet the goals of their of a service plan with the goal of transitioning to semi or independent living
- Connect youth to resources in the community not limited to education, employment, housing, life skills, addictions, and mental health
- Assist with the shared caseload of 10 youth as needed
- Daily communication, interaction and engagement with youth in residence
- As needed contact with support services (guardian, YHSSA, Justice, School, Employers), and other professionals and support services that may become involved with the youth
- Provide transportation as needed to assist youth to attend school/tutor/work, scheduled appointments, court, community and organizational programming outside the Home Base Dorms
- Engage with youth to participate in cultural, educational, mental health & addictions, personal coaching, recreational and social programming provided by specialized HBYK staff
- Ensure HBYK is a safe space for all, including 2SLGBTQQIPAA+ persons
- Risk, Conflict and Crisis Management

**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**
- Degree or Diploma, including but not limited to: Youth Work, Social Work, Criminology, Education, Recreation (_**asset**_)
- Minimum of 1 year experience working in a similar role/environment
- Relevant lived experience will be assessed on a case by case basis

**TRANSFERABLE SKILLS**
- Punctual and reliable _(_**required**_)_
- Understanding of _addiction, discrimination, homelessness, mental health problems, trauma, and neurodivergent diagnosis_
- Emotional intelligence: _self-awareness, self-regulation, intrinsic motivation empathy, social skills_
- Communication skills: _written, verbal, presentation, active listening, non-verbal, feedback, respect, confidence, clarity, honesty, friendly_
- Fluent in the use of Google Suite programming
- Experience writing case notes
- Collaborate well with others
- **Prerequisites**_
- Yellowknife resident, this is an on-site position (_**required**_)
- Current Work VISA Status (_**required**_)
- Fluency in English (comprehension, verbal & written) _(_**required**_)_
- 19 years of age (_**required**_)
- Full Class 5 license + minimum of 1 year experience as a fully licensed driver
- Clear Driver’s Abstract
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector _(_**required**_)_
- Child and Family Services Check (as necessary)

**Job Type**: Casual

**Salary**: $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 30 per week
