Digital Communications Specialist

**Purpose**:
Reporting to the Director, Strategic Communications, Markham Campus, the Digital Communications Specialist will play a central role in contributing to the innovation, development, maintenance, enhancement and execution of the Markham Campus marketing and communications initiatives. The Digital Communications Specialist creates and disseminates digital content aimed at showcasing Markham Campus's uniqueness, including Markham Campus programs, projects and people, to external and internal audiences. Those audiences include prospective students, educators, industry and community partners, the community at large, and the York University community. The Digital Communications Specialist also supports the advancement of Markham Campus's social media communications, including devising, creating, coordinating and publishing content, actively engaging in social media relationship building, analyzing the outcomes of website and social media activities, and recommending improvements based on analysis. The objective of the incumbent's work is to effectively develop communications assets and platforms that enhance Markham Campus's reputation, student recruitment, alumni and community engagement, and industry partnerships.

**Education**:
A university degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Digital Media or English, with an emphasis on written communications and/or digital marketing or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.

**Experience**:
Three years of directly related work experience in marketing and communications, both developing and coordinating collateral for visual representation and digital publishing, in a large organization. Practical experience with website content management systems, writing for the web, communications planning, marketing and/or communications. Experience dealing courteously and effectively with the public within a service-oriented environment.

**Skills**:
Demonstrated advanced writing and storytelling skills with commensurate proof-reading and editing skills and ability to write to diverse audiences.
Demonstrated experience in clearly defining and meeting communications success criteria.
Excellent organizational skills, ability to use project management tools, including the ability to work independently, meet deadlines, coordinate a number of projects simultaneous in response to changing or conflicting priorities.
Attending accurately to details and working effectively under pressure of high volume under competing time demands because of multiple, overlapping projects.
Working effectively in a team environment while also being highly self-directed.
Exercising high levels of tact and diplomacy, as well as the ability to deal courteously and effectively with clients and colleagues, often in pressure-oriented and difficult situations, to obtain information and provide communications services.

Technical
Working knowledge of design software, including Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Premiere, Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Illustrator) to resize, crop or optimized images and graphics for the web and social media, in compliance with the AODA.
Working knowledge of content management systems such as Drupal and WordPress.
Web browsers and common tools: Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari, Google Chrome, WordPress, MailChimp, Microsoft Teams.

Other
Willingness to learn new technology and engage in continuous learning of current and emerging technology and innovations in web design and development.
Excellent attendance and punctuality required.
