**Who are we?**

**What is a Recreation Inclusion Facilitator?**

A Recreation Inclusion Facilitator supports our members and facilitators in two different services offered by Between Friends:
1. Inclusive Community Activities with No Barriers (I.C.A.N), and
2. Volunteer in Training (VIT)

The I.C.A.N service gives Between Friends members the opportunity to take part in a community based activity. A Recreation Inclusion Facilitator (“Rec Buddy”) will accompany the participant to the community activity, and act as a mentor and guide for the facilitator of the program to create an inclusive environment for the member.

The VIT service gives Between Friends members the opportunity to learn and develop the skills necessary to become volunteers. Volunteers in Training (VITs) volunteer within our Weekend & Evening Social Opportunities, Activities & Recreation (W.E.S.O.A.R) program. A Recreation Inclusion Facilitator (“VIT Leader”) will accompany the participant to the Between Friends program, and act as a mentor to the VIT and the Program Leaders to foster an inclusive learning environment.

The ultimate goal of the Recreation Inclusion Facilitator is to foster inclusion and create an environment where the member will be able to work toward attending programs independently, without the support of the Recreation Inclusion Facilitator.

**What will you be doing as a Recreation Inclusion Facilitator?**
- Attend programs with Between Friends members to support program staff and facilitate inclusion.
- Typically, each program occurs weekly for 6-10 weeks, for 1-3 hours each program. Hours may vary depending on participant and program needs.
- Lead and develop goal setting meetings with Between Friends members, including a pre-session meeting, mid session check-in, and final wrap up meeting, as necessary.
- Directly work with Between Friends members to help them meet their goals, as needed, and step back when necessary during programming hours.
- Maintain open and effective communication with Between Friends members and caregivers to develop session goals and track the goals weekly.
- Communicate developed goals with community instructors, coaches, facilitators, and Program Leaders to ensure they are also supporting the individual to achieve their goals.
- Adhere to the policies and procedures of Between Friends.
- Maintain confidentiality of Between Friends participants.
- Attend all training opportunities and staff meetings as set by your direct supervisor.
- Positively represent Between Friends during all programs.
- Other duties as requested by the appropriate supervisor.

**Recreation Inclusion Facilitators are not 1:1 support aides. The role is focused on mentorship and skill-building, rather than personal or behaviour support.**
