BCIT’s **Financial Aid **department is seeking a **regular, full-time (1.0 **FTE**) Manager, Student Financial Aid and Awards**. This position manages the student financial aid and awards programs and services for BCIT. Provides operational direction and oversight to Student Financial Aid and Awards and develops the department initiatives to align with BCIT’s vision and strategic plan. Establishes departmental procedures, programming, and protocols that align with the BCIT Awards Philosophy to reflect the strong Institutional community commitment of student success through a range of financial need and merit-based programs including awards, bursaries, and scholarships. Provides leadership and manages department staff, ensuring efficient and effective operations of the financial support services for BCIT. Collaborates with BCIT Foundation leadership team in determining priorities for fundraising and overseeing the management and process of awards and bursary disbursement. Acts as the principal contact for provincial and federal student loan authorities and is responsible for the administration of government financial assistance to BCIT students and Institutional and donor-funded awards for BCIT students.**Duties & Responsibilities**

- Participates as a member of the Student Success leadership team in setting group objectives and strategic direction. In conjunction with the Senior Director, plans, implements, and manages department goals and ensures that they are appropriately met. Uses an equity lens to recommend and determine priorities and practices. Develops long
- and short-term objectives for the Student Financial Aid and Awards department and provides guidance and tools to ensure these are met.
- Analyses effectiveness and relevancy of administrative systems, policies, processes, and records management for the department. Evaluates, develops, implements and manages policies and procedures to optimise service levels, performance standards, and workplace solutions. Ensures processes adhere to contractual terms and conditions. Works in consultation with Schools and student service departments and provides advice about innovative approaches to student financial support policy and procedures based upon awareness based on knowledge of ministry programs, institutional policy development and review processes, financial aid and awards best practices.
- Provides information and training to faculty and staff across the Institute on financial aid policies and procedures. Oversees departmental communications for all stakeholders including students, BCIT Schools, student service units and external partners. Ensures information is kept up to date with ongoing policy and procedural changes. Reviews and manages escalated student cases for appropriate service and/or referrals as required.
- Leads Student Financial Aid and Awards staff by coaching and modeling Institutional values and competencies. Encourages dialogue and provides coaching to facilitate resolutions to issues that arise. Provides managerial guidance to team members in developing their team and individual goals. Monitors and assesses performance and oversees professional development activities for the department. Ensures department complies with the collective agreements, representing management in the department’s grievance process and in consultation with Human Resources regarding collective agreement interpretation, as appropriate.
- Represents BCIT to provincial and federal organizations and remains current on provincial and federal financial aid policies, procedures, and initiatives as they relate to practices in post secondary education. Liaises actively with government and industry peers on information pertaining to policies, procedures, student and statistical information. Collaborates with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure that Institute services, policies, procedures and systems provide excellent services to students.
- Responsible for the reporting on the administration of government funding for needs-based financial aid programs including: The Adult Upgrading Grant, the Provincial Tuition Waiver Program, and other funding programs administered by BCIT on the government’s behalf.
- Works with BCIT Foundation team to determine priorities and operating practices that reduce financial barriers for students and recognize student achievement. With the BCIT Foundation, establishes policies and procedures for student financial support donation, processing, adjudication, and disbursement. Collaborates to enhance disbursement processes and administration of awards to maintain detailed and accurate accounting. Meets regularly with the leadership of the BCIT Foundation team to monitor and collaborate on fundraising pertaining to awards and disbursement processes and practices.
