**In your role as an Indigenous Peoples Interpreter, you will**:

- Engage visitors with Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) histories and cultures as it relates to Edmonton within the Indigenous Peoples Experience or one of our four historical eras: 1846 Fort & Cree Encampment, 1885 Street & Métis Camp, 1905 Street, or 1920 Street
- Interpret a period of Edmonton's history to the visiting public using a variety of methods such as: storytelling, demonstrations of traditional skills, engaging visitors in one-on-one conversations, tours, and costumed role play
- Participate in and lead large-scale interpretive programs such as historical talks, dramatic vignettes, and special event activities, as well as research and implement new programs
- Assist with high-volume special events
- Assist in the maintenance of artifacts and program supplies
- Collect statistical information
- Lead programs for pre-registered school groups and other groups as required
- Participate in media engagements, public events, and other functions as required

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of grade 12 or equivalent
- Skills or Experience working with the general public and children
- Strong skills in traditional crafts and skills
- Knowledge of Cree, Métis or other Indigenous cultures and histories
- Ability to speak the Cree, Michif, or other Indigenous languages, and/ or knowledge of Cree syllabics is an asset
- Experience working in a museum, cultural centre, or historic site is an asset but not required
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR is required prior to commencing employment
- An original Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check issued within the past 6 months that is satisfactory to the employer will be required before starting in the position. The new hire will be required to obtain this check from Edmonton Police Service. Please note: this may take up to 3 weeks to process

The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
