**Responsibilities**:

- Responsible for Academic and Student Success advising, programming/services offered to students on an individual and group basis including specialized services for First Year students, International Students, Adult Learners and Immigrant Students.
- Responsible for Career Advising and Corporate Recruitment, including career exploration, planning and development; career research and decision making, and self-assessment as well as job search skill development.
- Manages the operations of the Academic and Career Services unit and resolves any issues which may arise.
- Hires and provides ongoing supervision, training and leadership to Academic Advisors, Academic/Career Advisors, Student Success Advisors and Student Life Assistant within Student Services.
- Develops and implements changes to policies and procedures within Academic and Career Advising to enhance student service.
- Coordinates the Academic and Career Services budget process, and recommends budget allocations.
- Ensures program objectives are achieved through research and evaluation of their success.
- Maintains and analyzes records and statistics for the department.
- Identifies, records and collaborates on fixes and improvements to student registration system.
- Chairs pan-University Advising Group to ensure a cohesive approach to academic advising across campus.
- Works collaboratively with other units within Student Services, and advising staff in other departments as well as faculty departmental advisors.
- Supports the work of Executive Director of Student Support Services, as appropriate.
- Participates actively in committees and projects relating to any and all functions of Student Services.
- Represents Academic and Career Services internally and externally in various other arenas, as required, including for the purpose of marketing or promoting the University.
- Maintains/updates/develops and oversees website content and print materials for Academic and Career Services; liaises with Student Services Communications.
- Actively participates in ongoing professional development
- Provides academic advising on both an individual basis and in groups to undergraduate students at the University of Winnipeg using a developmental advising model.
- Assesses and evaluates needs of registering students, takes discretionary action and solves problems as they occur in registration.
- Monitors students’ academic progress and assists students with strategies for academic success.
- Interprets policies, procedures and regulations and assesses student concerns in order to resolve issues, problems or conflicts that arise with students both through formal channels (appeals process) and informally.
- Applies knowledge of campus resources to provide students with appropriate assistance and referrals, refers students to other community resources outside the University if needed.
- Advocates on behalf of students, as necessary.
- Maintains a current knowledge base regarding UWinnipeg policies, procedures and regulations as well as current trends in Academic Advising, Career Advising, Student Retention and in Higher Education.
- May be called upon to represent the University externally with regard to academic advising issues, promotion of the university to students and general Academic and Career Services issues.
- Manages pre-registration advising for university students.
- Plans, creates, implements and evaluates information sessions for recruitment and first year student events and participates in project planning and committee work designed to support first year students.
- Creates, coordinates and evaluates programming and workshops for student success and persistence.
- Oversees career and employment related workshops, presentations, and information sessions.
- Oversees Corporate Recruitment program for the purpose of connecting students with employment opportunities.
- Responsible for the annual Career Fair, Volunteer Fair and other Career related events on campus. Actively participates in Orientation planning and implementation
- Provides consultation on policies, procedures and materials for the Senate Appeals Committee process in collaboration with the Executive Director of Student Support Services and the Chair of the Senate Appeals Committee.
- Researches, prepares and presents individual student appeals as a member of the Senate Subcommittee on Appeals.
- Acts as a resource for points of clarification required in the decision making processes and contributes to the final decisions on student appeals.
- Member of the Financial Appeal Committee and recommends procedures and materials for the fee appeals process.

**Qualifications**:

- Undergraduate degree in a related discipline, graduate degree preferred.
- 4 years of directly related experience as an administrator and/or educator.
- 3 years of previous supervisory or management experience, preferably in a post-secondary
