Assistant Controller

**Job Overview**:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Controller to join our dynamic property management team. The Assistant Controller will play a key role in supporting the Controller with the accounting operations of the company, including financial reporting, maintaining accounting records, and implementing controls and budgets to manage financial risk. This role will also involve assisting with strategic financial planning, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and helping to enhance the accuracy of financial results.
**Key Responsibilities**:
**Financial Reporting & Accounting**:
- Assist in the preparation and issuance of periodic financial statements.
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger and chart of accounts.
- Support the Controller in coordinating the preparation of the annual budget and forecasts.
- Ensure timely processing of accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Prepare and manage payroll processing in collaboration with HR.
- Conduct bank reconciliations and ensure the accuracy of financial data.
- Assist in managing the production of financial and operating metrics and variance analysis.
**Internal Controls & Compliance**:
- Support the Controller in maintaining a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
- Assist in monitoring and ensuring compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Help coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit.
- Monitor and enforce internal controls over accounting transactions.
**Operational Support**:
- Work closely with the Controller to manage the operations of the accounting department and administrative staff.
- Assist in managing outsourced functions as necessary.
- Support the implementation and automation of financial reporting systems.
- Provide financial analysis and support for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
**Management & Leadership**:
- Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff.
- Assist in training and development initiatives within the accounting department.
- Act as a liaison between the Controller and other departments to ensure smooth financial operations.
**Qualifications**:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation is preferred, or CPA certification is actively pursued.
- Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in the property management industry.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP or IFRS.
- Experience with Yardi Voyageur Property Management Software, Payworks Payroll Processing Software, and Microsoft Office 365.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of integrity and confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
