Are you a dynamic Human Resource professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment? Are you known for your ideas and high level of quality in all People & Culture initiatives? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a People & Culture Manager at Smythe LLP (Smythe).
We are looking for an experienced self-starter to join the Smythe team and play a crucial role in shaping our company culture, fostering a positive work environment, and developing our most valuable asset—our people. You will help create and lead the implementation of strategic People & Culture initiatives, enhance employee engagement, and promote a strong organizational culture.

Since 1980, Smythe has assisted clients in BC, Canada and across the border with their accounting, assurance, taxation, advisory and insolvency needs. We also provide business valuations, transaction advisory, capital structuring, and litigation support. Smythe’s clients include private, public, family-owned and non-profit organizations across a wide range of industries. The firm’s diverse team comprises over 200 individuals in professional and operational support roles, all of whom collaborate to achieve our mission of building meaningful connections, providing expertise and delivering enduring value to our clients.
**YOUR DAY-TO-DAY**
- Develop, review, and update HR policies, procedures, and employee handbooks.
- Ensure compliance with employment laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Oversee the onboarding process for new hires, facilitating a smooth transition and integration into the organization.
- Serve as a point of contact for employees on HR-related matters, providing guidance and support.
- Address employee concerns, conflicts, and grievances, ensuring fair and consistent resolution.
- Promote positive employee relations, foster a healthy work environment, and enforce company policies.
- Provide guidance to managers and employees on performance-related issues and improvement plans.
- Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that promotes employee engagement.
- Develop and implement initiatives to enhance employee morale, motivation, and teamwork.
- Manage the Human Capital Management System (HCMS) and ensure accurate and up-to-date employee data.
- Utilize HR metrics and analytics to track and measure HR effectiveness and make data-driven decisions.
- Prepare regular reports on HR activities, such as recruitment, turnover, training, and employee satisfaction.
- Develop and deliver training programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge.
- Conduct employee surveys and provide analysis and recommendations based on results.
- Lead the talent management process, including managing our performance review cycle, implementing performance improvement plans and assisting our leadership team with succession planning efforts.
- Maintain accurate employee records and ensure confidentiality of employee information.
- Collaborate with the management team to develop and implement employee retention strategies.
**WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR**
- Degree in Business or Human Resource Management or related discipline.
- 3+ years in a professional services environment.
- At least 3 years of experience in the field of Human Resources.
- CPHR designation.
- CPA designation is preferred but not a requirement.
- Education in industrial psychology is preferred but not a requirement.
- A solid understanding of BC employment standards.
- Strong computer and technical skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HRIS systems, database management, use of AI and data analytic tools etc.).
- Functional grounding in all areas of Human Resources, i.e., employee relations, performance management, compensation, recruiting, HRIS, and HR processes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated and strong project management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to establish effective relationships with stakeholders and staff at all levels.
- Proven ability to influence and provide guidance to employees and managers on a broad range of employment and employee matters.
- Thrive in a fast-paced and result-driven environment.
- Coach, mentor, and empower team members to grow, achieve their career goals and ensure a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
- Ability to execute all tasks with a high degree of confidentiality, tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple assignments.
- Exceptionally organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to adapt and respond to changing situations.
