The Financial Services Division of Service Nova Scotia provides corporate financial support through four key teams: Payroll Services, Operational Accounting, Performance Excellence, and Collection Services.
**About Our Opportunity**:
Payroll Services, provides service to the Province’s departments, agencies, boards, and commissions, the Regional Centre’s for Education/Conseil Scolaire Francophone and the retirees of three government pension plans. This includes centralized and integrated support in areas of payroll, payroll production, and tax compliance.
Reporting to the Director, you and your team administer the payroll in accordance with the established financial structures and policies of the Province of Nova Scotia, applicable Collective Agreements, as well as Federal and Provincial payroll legislation. You also provide expert payroll related advice to senior management throughout government to support collaborative and informed decision making, in support of service excellence - in the areas of innovative strategy development, initiatives relating to productivity, business redesign, SAP enhancements and integration of payroll processes within larger systems.
You promote the concept of effective business practices within the division and with other key client partners. You also develop and recommend policies and practices in support of sound, effective payroll administration that lead your team to provide excellent client service and support. You will often meet tight deadlines while balancing competing priorities. You’ll support and develop a high-performance team using measurable performance indicators, provide coaching on career development and work to encourage a continuous improvement work environment.

**About You**:
You will have a bachelor's degree, such as Business Administration or Commerce - plus several years of progressive management experience, including experience within the payroll function, preferably in a large, high volume organization that uses SAP. You are able to conduct your work with a focus on client service excellence. An acceptable combination of education, training and experience may also be considered.
You must be able to work well in a team environment, while leading, engaging, and motivating staff. Experience in a bargaining unit environment will be an asset. You are client focused and capable of responding to requests with tact and diplomacy. You will also have a demonstrated ability to produce accurate results, the ability to work within deadlines, proven ability to exercise sound judgement and set priorities within a fast-paced environment. The nature of work also requires professionalism and discretion to ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.
Reporting and technical support, managing various client partners for successful results with strong client service orientation and the ability to work collaboratively in a complex operating environment.
Work experience using current SAP functionality would be considered an asset, as would a professional payroll designation.

**Working Conditions**:
- Majority of time is spent in an office setting in Halifax, with flexible working from home arrangements.
- Occasional travel by car or airplane is required to attend meetings or conferences.
