As part of the Strategy, Support and Integrated Initiatives Division, the Strategic Policy and Planning branch provides strategic and integrated policy and project services for the department of Justice on a wide range of programs and services under department legislation.

**Role Responsibilities**:
The Strategic Policy and Legislation Unit has one position available for professionals looking to develop their skills in a dynamic and complex environment. Legislative Services is responsible for the development of strategic policy with legislative impacts, including research and analysis, cabinet material, and shepherding the legislative approvals and drafting process.

The position's focus is on informational research and analysis, as well as development of recommendations and information material. Results achieved by this position will have influence on current department initiatives and future legislative/priorities.

As the Legislative Analyst you will report to the Manager of Legislative Services.

Responsibilities for this position include but not limited to:

- Assisting in the development of legislative packages (drafting instructions, legislation charts), reviewing related materials, and ensuring compliance with policies, acts, and regulations.
- Stays informed on issues and trends, provide necessary information, collaboration, and coordination required.
- Researches, evaluates, and analyzes quantitative and qualitative data from a variety of sources, including internal and cross-jurisdictional databases.
- Identifies, assesses, analyzes and reports information and data relevant to projects.
- Compiles information for Manager as required such as key messages, briefing notes, and responses for internal use and media inquiries.
- Assists in developing options and reports, on the development of programs and initiatives.
- Develops and maintains positive working relationships with branch, division, and government partners to ensure collaborative efforts lead to the effective development and implementation of policies.

**Qualifications**:
**Minimum Requirements**
- University graduation in a related field Demonstrated research and/or policy experience.Equivalencies will be considered based on one-year experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

**Assets**
- Experience writing reports, briefings, policy documents, and/or presentations with recommendations to leadership.
