Job Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director, Alumni Strategy, the Director, Global Alumni Strategy plays a key role in the engagement of Queen’s alumni audiences across national and global markets, including developing, implementing, and evaluating engagement strategies that demonstrates the university’s value proposition to alumni, and engages 160,000+ alumni around the world in the advancement of Queen’s University in a variety of ways (e.g., volunteerism and philanthropy). An experienced strategist, the Director identifies key markets and works collaboratively with campus partners to deliver customized programming, engaging those alumni populations in support of university priorities. Acting as a liaison to the network of volunteer-led regional and international groups, including the Greater Toronto Area market, branches of the Queen’s University Alumni Association (QUAA), and Bader College, the incumbent ensures alignment with university-wide strategic plans and the Advancement Strategic Plan 2020-2025, Forward, Together. The Director works collaboratively with staff in the Office of Advancement, senior university administrators, lead volunteers, as well as faculties, schools, and university affiliated groups on and off campus to provide expertise in all aspects of alumni engagement, including using metrics to drive and evaluate strategy. The incumbent ensures an inclusive lens, that reflects a commitment to I-EDIAA, in providing expertise and direction in the development and implementation of alumni engagement strategy and execution for mutual benefit.
**This position is fully remote. This position requires extensive travel within and outside Canada and requires the incumbent to travel and work evenings and weekends according to program or area needs.**
**Job Description**:
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- In collaboration with the Executive Director, and senior leadership across campus, formulates and executes an integrated and comprehensive strategy for national and international alumni and volunteer engagement and fundraising that aligns with university-wide strategic plans and the Office of Advancement’s mission that serves to demonstrate the impact Queen’s has on the world and to enhance its image/reputation among key audiences. Based on an analysis and thorough understanding of the emerging trends of alumni, donor, and volunteer behaviour, including market-based, demographic cohort trends (e.g., by life stages), develops engagement strategies, targets, metrics, and analyzes results. Modifies existing programs to align with emerging priorities and industry trends.
- Liaises with the Vice-Provost and Executive Director of Bader College to leverage engagement potential of the College and its alumni; sets strategy for the global Branch network of the QUAA; travels as needed to ensure consistent strategic execution, and to build and maintain constituent relationships.
- In conjunction with the Executive Director, Alumni Strategy and Advancement units and colleagues, advises and makes recommendations regarding the Office of Advancement’s alumni engagement strategy, in support of its mission, as well as the university vision and priorities.
- Strategically manages high-level volunteers and key influencers across the globe in support of meaningful alumni engagement.
- Develops and effectively maintains relationships across the university community and with key volunteers (e.g., the Board of the QUAA) by leveraging opportunities and providing expertise and knowledge on alumni engagement objectives for key constituents, using a data-driven approach.
- Partners with Advancement colleagues to ensure creative conception and rollout of programming strategies that are developed and delivered on time, error-free, on budget, in accordance with the University’s brand and visual identity standards, and oriented in a way that advances organizational goals and results in quantifiable growth in Queen’s alumni engagement.
- Advises Advancement Faculty leadership, senior administrators and lead volunteers on alumni engagement opportunities and strategies in international and national key markets. Encourages the most strategic use of individuals’ time and ensures collaboration and alignment to efficiently accomplish strategic goals.
- Supports and mentors Advancement departments and units on the various aspects of alumni engagement (e.g., programming, data capture) both in one-on-one and group settings.
