**Job Description**:
***: Under the general supervision of the Sport & Community Development Supervisor and the technical direction and guidance of the Coordinator Support Services (PRO Kids), is responsible for research and community engagement activities that support the Sport & Community Development Section and its projects, including the development of a five year Municipal Sport Strategy, updating the Department’s Subsidization Policy, and PRO Kids fund development and placements.

**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Develops processes to identify sporting facilities, equipment, programming, coaching, officiating and governance needs and issues.
- Consults with representatives of local sport organizations, school boards and community service groups to identify gaps and opportunities for support.
- Collects data on participation numbers in individual sports, levels of coaching certifications, trainers and officials.
- Develops an inventory of all sport assets in the community including organizations, facilities, service providers, coaches and officials.
- Identifies opportunities to collaborate to increase enrollment, optimize facility use, improve the level of coaching and officiating and encourage shared use of equipment, facilities and programs.
- Identifies granting programs and funding opportunities for sport organizations and community service groups.
- Supports the placement process of children and youth into community programming through PRO Kids.
- Determines and responds to the recreation programming needs in priority neighbourhoods.
- Researches and develops a recognition process for both PRO Kids activity partners and donors.
- Assists in the planning and implementation of PRO Kids annual campaign.
- Researches and makes recommendations for a planned giving program for PRO Kids.
- Completes research and analysis to support the process to update the Department’s Subsidization Policy.
- Attends meetings, and presents and reports as required.
- Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education/Experience**:

- Degree or diploma in a related field such as Recreation, Human Services, Social Science, Sport Management/Administration or Business Administration
- Experience in special events and sports administration and working with community and volunteer organizations
- Experience in community development and partnerships, marketing, fundraising

**Skills/Abilities**:

- Superior ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with Administration, superiors, co-workers, and the general public
- Strong research, project/time management, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to function and contribute as an effective team member and to work independently
- Must be proficient in the use of computers and current related software
- Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act

**Assets**:

- Knowledge of Thunder Bay’s events and sport sectors
- Knowledge of the functions of City departments, outside boards and local community groups

**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**:

- May be required to travel to various work locations and provide own transportation
- Must be able to work irregular hours, and off site as required
- Must sign and abide by Employee Confidentiality Statement
- Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
