**SUMMARY**:
Mental Wellness depends on access to a full spectrum of culturally competent supports and services. It is essential that the continuum of services be located within a quality care system and that the services and supports be of a high quality and culturally competent. Working towards creating a resource that provides best practice, Ka-Na-Chi-Hih is embracing the First Nation Mental Wellness Continuum framework that includes health promotion, prevention and educational activities.
As a member of Ka-Na-Chi-Hih, the Outreach and Engagement Worker will be the first contact for individuals seeking support for substance use and mental wellness issues. The role is crucial in facilitating the intake process, conducting assessments and ensuring the clients are connected to appropriate treatment services. Additionally, the position will engage in outreach efforts in Thunder Bay, Sioux Lookout, Timmins and Nishnawbe Aski Nation communities to raise awareness about our services and reach youth and families who may benefit from our programs
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES**:
- This worker will be responsible for leading portions of aftercare services with existing material and developing new material that best fits current trends.
- They will be the first contact for individuals seeking support for substance use and mental wellness issues.
- They will be responsible for inputting data and case notes into AMIS for tracking purposes.
- This role is crucial in facilitating the intake process. They will be responsible for conducting assessments and ensuring the clients are connected to appropriate treatment services.
- An outpatient curriculum manual will be developed and updated by this worker. With input from management, program workers and the cultural coordinator, the lesson plans will be developed and enhanced, and a resource list created.
- The Outreach and Engagement Worker will assistance when and where needed with inpatient cohorts for the purposes of programing needs.
- The Outreach and Engagement Worker will create health promotion, prevention and education strategies that focus on restoring linkages to cultural strengths, enhancing empowerment at the individual and community levels to increase participation in family and community life, strengthening resilience, increasing protective factors, and decreasing risk factors.
- Health promotion activities will target physical health, such as illness prevention, healthy living, physical activity, injury prevention and safety.
- This position will also be responsible for sharing on-call duties with the Program Manager, Clinical Lead, and the Case Manager for the existing residential cohorts. There will be an expectation of being on call for one week every third week over the timeline of any existing cohorts.
- Additionally, the position will engage in outreach efforts in Thunder Bay, and Nishnawbe Aski Nation communities to raise awareness about our services and reach youth and families who may benefit from our programs.
**ACCOUNTABILITY**:
The Outreach and Engagement Worker is under the day-to-day Supervision of the Clinical Lead, with further accountability to the overall performance to the Chief Executive Officer.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education**
- Bachelor’s degree in social services, psychology, counselling or a related field. Additional certifications or training in addiction counselling, crisis intervention or youth services.
- Previous experience working with youth in a social service or mental health setting, preferably in intake coordinator or case management roles. Knowledge of substance abuse issues, adolescent development, trauma informed care and evidence-based modalities
- Preferred with three years experience working with First Nation communities/Diploma with five years working with First Nation communities.
**Experience**
- Experience in working with aboriginal youth, families and communities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrate excellent organizational skills
- Must be able to maintain Confidentiality
- Ability to speak a NAN language is an asset
- Criminal records and vulnerable sectors check

Pay: $54,600.00-$61,425.00 per year
