**Position Description**:
The Human Resources Advisor will work in a cohesive, small team environment but as a sole HR practitioner. This position is responsible for developing and executing human resource strategy, policy, and programs in support of the Strategic Plan for Martin Luther University College (Luther). The HR Advisor will be responsible for ensuring Luther is in compliance with legislation and adheres to best practices and has documented policy and procedures for all aspects of Human Resources. This position will interact with Faculty and Staff at Luther

**Reporting Relationship**: Principal-Dean

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Establishes and implements Human Resources strategies and policies that effectively communicate and support the mission, vision, and strategy of Martin Luther University College (Luther)
- Under the direction of the Principal-Dean, responsible for all human resources activities, employee relations matters and human resources planning initiatives.
- Advises the Principal-Dean regarding key organizational HR management issues.
- Act as the primary point of contract for faculty and staff on HR related matters.
- Responsible for facilitating the recruitment process for faculty and staff including interviews, offers of employment and employment contracts and
- Conducts employee on boarding including ensuring the compliance training for new hires is completed.
- Advises the Principal-Dean on retention issues.
- Advises the Principal-Dean on talent management, career development, and training for faculty and staff.
- Manages the annual performance review process under the direction of the Principal-Dean
- Develops and implements a comprehensive compensation and benefit strategy and plan for staff at Luther and for advising on the faculty salary scale.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with all HR related legislation and that all policies for faculty and staff are compliant with same. Develops programs and policies to ensure compliance. Reviews and updates as needed Faculty and Staff Manuals related to HR matters.
- Provides support in the delivery of various HR projects and initiatives by being a partner in the design, documentation, communication and implementation of processes, procedures, and programs to support the HR needs of Luther.
- Assists the Principal-Dean with all attendance matters such as return to work and accommodation, leaves of absence, short
- and long-term illnesses, WSIB claims etc.
- Develops and oversees policy and programs to address and mediate employee concerns and interpersonal disputes. Oversees and facilitates any investigations under policies such as Harassment in the Workplace or Violence in the workplace, (as examples)
- Manages HR files for faculty and staff.
- Other related HR duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:

- An Undergraduate Degree in a discipline related to HR or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of five years of progressive management experience in HR with a focus on HR policy, compensation, and conflict resolution.
- Excellent critical thinking skills, including decision-making skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a sole HR practitioner with a high degree of independence in a busy environment.
- Thorough knowledge of provincial and federal labour and employment law
- Knowledge of compensation practices including job evaluation, compensation administration and pay equity.
- Highly developed conflict resolution and mediation skills.
- Demonstrated highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to represent Luther with a high degree of professionalism and respect for diverse cultures and faiths.
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and to act with empathy, integrity, tact, and diplomacy.
- Demonstrated strategic mindset and business acumen preferred.
- Superior organizational and time management skills, proven dependability, and flexibility, including the ability to effectively multi-task, prioritize workflow, and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of the university environment is desirable.
