**Job Overview**: The Marketing and Communications Specialist amplifies Martin Luther University College’s brand recognition and reputation as a premier authority in preparing individuals for leadership in the church, the community, nationally and globally. Spearheading the creation and maintenance of a communications strategy, framework and policy, the incumbent guides Luther stakeholders in executing those plans. Working collaboratively and extensively with the Digital Communications Specialist, the Communications and Marketing Specialist cultivates and strengthens essential relationships college-wide, supporting Luther’s five Centres, faculty, staff and administration, initiatives, and programs.

Martin Luther University College (formerly Waterloo Lutheran Seminary) is in Waterloo, Ontario and federated with Wilfrid Laurier University. As a federated college, Luther has its own board of governors which oversees the work of the institution. Luther offers academic programming at the undergraduate, graduate, and graduate diploma levels. The mission of Luther is:

**Students**

Approximately 195 students are enrolled in Luther’s programs at any one time, and another 300 undergraduate students, registered at Wilfrid Laurier University, enroll in Luther courses as electives. Approximately twenty Luther students are undergraduates, while the remaining students are pursuing Master or PhD programs. Luther students come from more than thirty different faith traditions while some have no faith tradition at all.

**Faculty & Staff**

Luther is comprised of a dozen full-time faculty members who have earned doctoral degrees. Given the number of courses offered, many are taught by adjunct faculty who are specialists in their field. The school is supported by a team of 8 full-time staff members working in communications, student services, and administration departments.

Communications
- collaboratively and proactively with the Digital Communications Specialist in most aspects of departmental functions
- professional expertise and the Communications Research Findings & Recommendations report to develop, execute, maintain, and report on a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy and framework related to Luther’s overall strategic plan, to be used as a benchmark guide for the institution’s communications and marketing goals and trajectory.
- and maintain the college’s communications policy.
- the Principal-Dean and the appropriate leadership, develop, manage and implement public relations, issues and crisis management plans.
- as a strategic advisor to the Principal-Dean, particularly during emergencies or situations of reputational risk.
- administrative, faculty and Luther Centres’ communications and marketing initiatives including donor relations, recruitment, alumni relations, event promotion and website improvements.
- extensively with faculty members on projects and initiatives.
- established in the communications and marketing strategy, set, track and report on targeted communications and marketing goals, strategies, engagement, metrics and productivity at regular intervals to the Principal-Dean.
- collaboration with the Finance Manager, develop and adhere to the communications and marketing annual budget.
- in weekly departmental meetings to discuss emerging trends in digital media channels, priorities, distribution of responsibilities, short and long-term goals.
- with current students through Luther-sponsored experiences, programming and events.
- in committees, councils, listservs and other collaborative opportunities.

Marketing and Recruitment

Ongoing identification, analysis and evaluation of Luther’s core audiences.

Build full-circle relationships with Luther’s key external stakeholders, including prospective students, alumni, donors, strategic recruitment partners, faith-based organizations, community partners and the media.

Collaborate and guide in crafting paid advertisements to promote Luther's programs, driving annual growth in student enrollment.

Cultivate and maintain a shared collaborative database comprised of high school counselors, educators, and administrators to annually promote Luther's undergraduate programs.
