**Role Responsibilities**:

- Are you an Occupational Health and Safety Consultant? Do you have an interest in public service occupational health and safety management? If so, take some time to read through this opportunity.- The OHS Consultant is accountable for collaboratively liaising with internal and external stakeholders to support business units in managing operational risk and achieving strategic OHS goals. This includes implementing the Government of Alberta’s (GoA) OHS program that helps ministries understand and control hazards, respond to incidents, comply with policies, standards, procedures, and legislation, and take proactive measures to improve performance in health and safety and maintain effective health and safety management systems.
- Reporting to the Team Lead, Occupational Health and Safety, your key accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

- Working with all levels of management and employees to facilitate the implementation of the GoA’s OHS Program and to attain compliance with OHS legislation as well as related legislation and applicable standards.- Lead or support the development of hazard assessments and written practices and procedures.
- Lead investigations into Serious or Potentially Serious incidents.
- Collect and analyze OHS data and crucial metrics, complete reports, and identify trends related to various aspects of the GoA OHS Program.
- Assist in the development, review, and implementation of ministry specific OHS procedures and practices in accordance with legislative requirements.
- Participating in the development of OHS performance initiatives/measures, interpreting technical results and coaching/influencing staff on how to improve OHS performance.
- Coaching and mentoring all levels of management and employees to provide understanding of their health and safety responsibilities, accountabilities, and assistance in fulfilling their legislated and OHS program assigned roles and obligations.
- Providing consultation to clients in the completion of workplace inspections, hazard assessments, incident management, WCB reporting and other program elements.

To be successful, you will require in-depth knowledge and working understanding of OHS Legislation/Programs, OHS program evaluation, Psychological Health, and Safety Programs, applicable standards, related programs such as WCB, Duty to Accommodate, Fit-for-work, Return to Work, occupational health surveillance and so on. In this role, you will participate or lead elements of cross-ministry or cross Portfolio Director (PD) Teamwork and will review complex related ministry data and assist assigned client groups with recommendations on creating a healthy and safe work environment.

You will support your PD team members and work across teams and centers including the OHS and disability management staff to achieve outcomes and goals. Other demonstrated competencies required to be successful in this position include exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate to a diverse client group, taking initiative, adapting to change, problem solving, time management skills and the ability to multi-task in order to meet business objectives.

**Requirements**:

- University graduation in a related field (sciences, human resources, commerce, business, social sciences), or a related area supplemented with a minimum of 2 years of directly related experience in OHS program development and implementation in a government or large corporate setting.
- OHS Designation (CRSP, CRST, other related or equivalent)

**Equivalencies**:

- A related two-year diploma in OHS from a recognized post-secondary institution and four years of related experience, or a related one-year OHS certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and five years of related experience.
